BioWare’s fantasy RPG franchise Dragon Age will be taking on new life after the developer announced an agreement with FUNimation Entertainment today. FUNimation will be creating an anime feature based on the series for a home video release in 2011. Producers will include staff from both BioWare (EP Mark Darrah and Creative Director Mike Laidlaw) and FUNimation (CEO Gen Fukunaga and Director of Original Entertainment Chris Moujaes). “Anime is a great medium for us to continue the robust Dragon Age story,” said Darrah. “Partnering with FUNimation ensures that we are delivering the exceptional quality and entertainment value that our Dragon Age fans expect.” Dragon Age is only the first title in FUNimation’s Original Entertainment anime movie lineup. “Worms 2: Armageddon” only 400 points on XBL Arcade this week!

Grab your favorite rope and a few handy grenades, Worms 2: Armageddon is XBL Arcade’s Deal of the Week. If you’ve never played any Worms title, Armageddon 2 is the perfect way to dive in. The critically acclaimed game has been a staple for many since it was originally released for PC back in 1994, and despite having a bit of a fallout in between, it has made a fantastic comeback with a new single-player mode, new weapons and new levels — there’s even a training mode for those of us that have made the mistake of joining an online game completely oblivious, not to name any names. If you’re looking for a title with a lot of replay value, is family-friendly and features adorable voices saying hilarious things, Worms 2: Armageddon is a great choice. For those of you who prefer their strategy games on PC, Worms developer Team17 is

Square Enix and Obsidian Join Forces for “Dungeon Siege 3″

The Dungeon Siege series has found another new home. The third installment, creatively titled Dungeon Siege 3, is being published through Square Enix. The first two were Microsoft Game Studios’ work. As far as the development goes, Gas Powered Games, the company that created the previous installments, will be supervising the development done by Obsidian Entertainment, a company that a lot of you might know as the developer of The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion. GPG’s Chris Taylor will serve as an advisor. For the very first time, a Dungeon Siege title will be available on high-def home consoles instead of just the PC. That explains the move to Square Enix well enough. So now, you can add the PS3 and Xbox 360 to the list of places you can get your “Siege” on. The PC is a given. Square Enix champions this move as part of its ongoing effort to work

Interview with Sylvia Liu, Sony’s 2010 GIRL Scholarship Recipient, and Sara Kaplan, Manager of SOE Corporate Communications

Last week, I was lucky enough to get to interview the winner of this year’s Gamers In Real Life (GIRL) Scholarship (provided by Sony Online Entertainment) – Sylvia Liu, of Milpitas, Calif., who beat out 200 other applicants with her EverQuest II designs (pictured below) and an essay on women in the video game industry. The GIRL Scholarship has lofty (but attainable) goals: Get more women into the game development, so that video games are more enticing for women as a whole. Female students in the arts are typically encouraged to apply, though the requirements could expand in the future. Sylvia is the third recipient of $10,000 since the program’s inception. She will be using the money to finance her education in Entertainment Design at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, Calif. She also has the opportunity to work for Sony in a paid internship at SOE headquarters

NHL Slapshot Announced for the Wii

EA recently announced that they will be releasing a new title in the NHL series exclusively for the Wii! NHL Slapshot, promises to be a great family fun game, with endless hours of entertainment. The game features Wayne Gretzky as the title player, all the way from his peewee years to his prime in the NHL. In order to play the game, EA has in development an actual hockey stick in which the wii remote and nunchuck will be held. You will use it to control your player, shoot pucks and have a blast at cross checking. While taking part at the NHL 11 community event, I had the chance to actually take a turn playing the game, and I honestly believe that this will be a huge hit. It’s ridiculously fun to play. Follow

    Intro to Painting Miniatures

Here you are, a newly recruited General for the armies of Warhammer Fantasy and/or Warhammer 40,000 and/or some other war-game that I haven’t mentioned, and you need to assemble your army for glorious battle. But, you don’t have the faintest ideas as to where to begin with all of your various sprues (unassembled plastic models) and metallic warriors. First thing’s first, take a deep breath and remember that you are not required to have the best painted or best converted army right out of the gate. This will require three things from you: rudimentary knowledge of colour theory and lighting, as well as a lot of patience for both yourself (you’re learning) and the process (it takes a while). It will also require you to pick up the following materials from your local hobby store: Plastic cutters, to separate the pieces from the sprues and to snip chunks of flash
