E3 2010 Hands On – Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood
Tweet
Ubisoft didn’t exactly woo us with their press conference on Monday. @gamingangel, @CandiceHatesYou, and I had the chance to pop by their booth this afternoon to try out a demo of Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood’s multiplayer experience.
We sat down on shiny, French cubes of white awesomeness (from Ubisoft’s press conference) and were immediately given the reins to the beta Assassin’s Creed love.
“I’m throwin’ down, Manda,” Candice said, gearin’ herself up. “It’s on.”
Oh yeah, it was on.
We were introduced to the overview of Assassin Creed’s lore; our player-characters were Abstergo trainees, sent in to the Animus to counter the assassin uprising led by Ezio Auditore. The tutorial we watched was brief, concise, and still managed to be packed with informational goodies and tips on how to win the match.
The goal, like most multiplayer combat matches, was to get the most kills, the least deaths, and the most points. There were six player types (with many more on the way for release) to choose from; each player type had a set of power-ups that could be switched out on respawn. The assassins and templars are pitted against one another, given assignments to quietly off their target. Points were earned by escaping and hiding from your pursuer in elaborate ways (slamming doors, running through rooftops, and hiding in the haystacks).
The players are given assignments, instead of it being a traditional free-for-all gank-fest. The assigned targets would move amongst the crowd, blend in, and could escape at any time. A radar indicated where the player was in proximity to the target, which filled up the closer you got. If you got in the same vicinity of your pursuer, instead of reverse-gankage, you can press circle (or X) to humiliate the assassin/templar in question. Slap ‘em. Punch ‘em. Knock ‘em down.
Owned.
I ended up finishing in first out of six players.
Bragging rights earned. Seal of awesomeness earned. Can’t wait to see this game when it drops this November.
