Del Ray announces a Deus Ex Novel

Today Del Ray announced a new novel that is going to be based in the Deus Ex universe: Deus Ex: The Icarus Effect. “We’re really pleased to be able to announce this new DEUS EX novel with Del Rey books,” said Andre Vu, Marketing Game Manager, Deus Ex. “The novel is set in the DEUS EX universe and there will be characters and story elements in it, that will overlap with our next videogame DEUS EX: HUMAN REVOLUTION, which we hope fans will be very excited about.”

It’s cool how Del Ray and Square Enix are going to use this novel to bridge the previous games with the next Deus Ex game. The plot for tbe novel sounds interesting. The story will take place within the Deus Ex universe, where new technological developments may be threatening human existence, while in the shadows new powers are amassing their energies to enact an intricate plot. It is up to the two heroes Anna Kelso and Ben Saxon to discover what’s going on and to hopefully change history for the better.

It will be written by James Swallow, whose previous work is also set more into Steampunk/sci-fi universes, seems like a good choice for this novel. Deus Ex: The Iacrus Effect is set to be released in 2011.
