TAITO Corporation has announced a huge update to the iPhone/iPod Touch game, Space Invaders Infinity Gene. This update is free and includes a new playable ship and a new side scrolling play mode. Players will be able to activate this new mode by tilting the iPhone/ iPod Touch. A series of paid content packs based off of classic shooters with additional playable ships and new stages have also been made available. Each of the new paid content packs includes a new playable ship, two stages featuring the appearance of a special boss enemy, two new original music tracks, and one remixed music track.

Here are the specifics:

The Darius-Themed Pack includes the playable ship, Silver Hawk which is armed with missiles, lasers, bombs, and wave attacks and is protected by the Arm energy shield.

This theme is based off the 1986 side scrolling arcade game, Darius and is noted for having three video screens and enemies patterned after aquatic creatures.

The Night Stricker-Themed Pack includes the playable ship, InterGray which is equipped with a powerful homing laser. Released to arcades in 1989, Night Stricker featured simulated 3D graphics, urban scenery, and an exhilarating sense of speed.

The third pack is based off the 1991 side scroller/ shooter, Metal Black. It includes the Black Fly which is armed with a beam weapon capable of canceling out enemy fire.

Each of these packs are $1.99 (EUR1.59) and are currently available from the Apple Apps Store.
