Check out the New, Cheaper Kindle!

By: netzach

I am always excited to see updates and evolutions of  gadgets. As a huge fan of the e-reader revolution was excited to see news about the Kindle and it’s new updates.  The Kindle has changed in a few ways. The first way that the Kindle has changed is the fact that there will now be two different versions of the e-reader, with two different price tags.  The reason for the difference in price tag and version is mainly in the connectiblity options. The $190 dollar Kindle will have the option of Wifi or 3g for downloading new titles and documents. While the $140 dollar Kindle will be Wifi only. That means, if you are picking up the $140 dollar version, you will be only allowed to download books from internet hotspots or a residential wireless.  This is in comparison to the $190 dollar verison which runs on a 3g network, much like your phone.  So if you are in an area that has 3g, then you can download books, as well as use the wifi option.

Other then the connectivity options, all the improved features of the Kindle are the same in both models. These new features are as follows:

  • 15% lighter body
  • 21% smaller body, yet still contains the 6 inch  screen
  • Hold 3, 500 novels and documents, about a 50% increase
  • Advanced PDF document features such a notes and highlighting
  • Improved Font
  • Screen sharpness
  • Geryscale contrast makes for easy reading.
  • Anti-glare makes reading outside a breeze
  • 60 second download time on books
  • Improved battery life (1 months with wifi turned off)
  • Web Kit for internet (3G only)
  • Available in two colors (White and Graphite)

This new version of the Kindle are available for pre-order right now, with an shipping date of August 27 2010.

I wasn't about it either. I love printed books, but I might be having a change of heart. I believe that is because I can get one in Canada now.

Y'know, I wasn't digging this whole E-Reader Revolution but I gotta say... that Kindle looks mighty tasty. Might have to hop on the Kindle bandwagon.
