GamingAngels remembers Satoshi Kon, Famed Anime Director

Gaming Angels is sad to announce the passing of visionary anime director, Satoshi Kon. The details of his death have not been publicized yet. He was 47 years old. He was best know for his unique and critically acclaimed anime films such as, Paprika, Tokyo Godfathers, Perfect Blue and Paranoia Agent. He was known for his surreal work with highly relatable, yet flawed characters anime fans have grown to love for years now. Paprika, a personal favorite of mine, is the compelling story of a convergence of dreams and reality. The anime community will be much poorer for his loss. For more information on his films and work, check out his IMdb, at; http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0464804/

Washington PhD student awarded 2010 Penny Arcade Scholarship

University of Washington PhD student Jeffery Lin has been awarded the 2010 Penny Arcade Scholarship. His plans for the prize include using vision science to solve problems in game design. Lin knows that the experience vision scientists could bring to a game development team could be vital in the future. “Vision scientists have the tools and skills to help developers tackle problems from how to reduce motion sickness some experience in FPS titles to how to make games more accessible to the color blind,” said Lin.  “My goal is to eventually prove to game developers that vision scientists would be a valuable member of any developer’s team.” Combining these disciplines is what impressed the scholarship selection committee in the first place. The winner is chosen based on leadership, service, character, potential to have a positive impact and financial need. “Lin represents an intriguing future where an interdisciplinary approach to game

Wheatley finds his voice in the latest “Portal 2″ gameplay trailer

Apparently, when we met Wheatley the first time, he wasn’t so permanent. Or, at least his voice actor wasn’t. Now, in the latest Portal 2 gameplay video, we get introduced all over again to the little personality sphere, this time voiced by Stephen Merchant, co-producer of (and actor in) several Ricky Gervais projects. Basically, all you need to know is that he’s a funny Brit. We get more out of Wheatley now than we did the last time, meaning we get to see a few chunks of a level or two, including a look at the manufacturing department’s turret-making process. Wheatley is as funny as he ever was to me – do you feel the same way? Video Games | Portal 2 | Wheatley’s Wit Gameplay XBox 360 | Playstation 3 | Nintendo Wii

Angry Little Girls go back to school

For some of you it may be time to go back to school. I miss those days. Where you would rush to the bookstore and spend too much money on notepads, pens and books. All with the fresh hope of what that semester will bring. Now you can bring your sassy self and Angry Little Girls back to school. I love the Nerds Rule shirt (in the picture). Have to admit it’s better than the Hello Kitty one. In addition to shirts, there are tote bags, backpacks, and pens. Because it’s back to school, Angry Little Girl is offering a promo sale in the store. The code is BTS15OFF. Enjoy and there is even a funny shirt for people that want to make fun of the vampire craze.

Tech Angel 101: How to Shop for a Laptop

Good Morning Everyone! Welcome to another addition of Tech Angel 101. If this is the first time you have seen this column the whole premise of these articles are to help make all you wonderful people out there into supreme tech gods.  I, Netzach, will be teaching you how to utilize the technology that you have to work for you. Today’s article is something completely different then what I had imagined in terms of tech help. I thought that I would begin small, for example organizing your email, or something of the nature. That changed pretty quickly when my laptop cord was snapped in two and my battery in the laptop no longer changed.  I was without a laptop, without a computer. I had to begin sharing my parents personal computer while I am home on vacation.  I missed my old lappy, and decided that after my four year run,
