Supernatural fans rejoice! Tuesday marked the release date for Supernatural Season 5 on Blu-Ray and DVD. Do you know what this means? You too can watch all 22 episodes of Season 5 goodness in the comfort of your own home. Okay, I’m sure that’s usually where you are when you’re watching Supernatural but now there’s no commercials and plenty of extra features to keep you busy until the next season starts.
If you’re not all caught up on what’s been happening with the Winchester brothers, here’s the rundown:
Twenty-six years ago, Sam and Dean Winchester lost their mother to a mysterious and demonic supernatural force. Subsequently, their father raised them to be soldiers. He taught them about the paranormal evil that lives in the dark corners and on the back roads of America … and he taught them how to kill it. This haunting series follows the Winchester brothers as they crisscross the lonely and mysterious back roads of the country in their ’67 Chevy Impala, hunting down every evil supernatural force they encounter along the way. At the end of the fourth season, Sam unwittingly broke the final seal – that held Lucifer captive in Hell. Now, Lucifer is free, the Apocalypse is here and angels prepare for a spectacular final battle. Against a landscape of celestial violence, natural disasters and a rising human death toll, Sam and Dean, with the help of fallen angel Castiel, must find a way to achieve the impossible: Kill the Devil.
So, along with the wonder of the Winchester’s Season 5 journey with angels and demons, what can you expect out of your shiny new Season 5 collection? Here’s the full list of special features:
- Supernatural: Apocalypse Survival Guides – Bobby’s Exclusive Video Collection
- Ghostfacers: The Web Series
- Producer/Writer Commentary on Episode 4, The End
- Unaired Scene from Episode 9, The Real Ghostbusters
- Gag Reel
That’s a lot of extra time with this season (I mean Ghostfacers!). Seriously, if you’re fan of shows about preternatural creatures/people, Supernatural is one of the best ones out there. It’s worth grabbing not just this season, but all of them, especially when it’s possible we’re getting close to the end of the series. I was a late-comer to the series and dove in head first when I picked up the first season a year or two back. I’ve pretty much devoured each box set as soon as they enter my house, I get so caught up in this series. I highly recommend it.

Yeah, I discovered Supernatural last summer and went completely crazy catching up on four seasons! I'm so excited for Sept. 24th and season 6! I decided not to buy S5 right away because I won't get to watch it before 6 starts anyway, so I'm putting it on my Christmas list instead, along with all the companions because I don't understand why I don't own them.BTW - my husband says he rues the day he introduced me to Supernatural!
