    Child’s Play raises over $2 million in 2010

    Child’s Play set a new record last year – gamers from around the world raised over $2 million in 2010, with a total of $2,294,317 going to purchase books, movies, toys and games for sick children in hospitals around the world. Several notable events contributed to the final total, including the Humble Indie Bundle ($300,000), the annual Desert Bus for Hope fundraiser ($207,000) and Gears of War’s “The Fate of Carmine” campaign ($150,000). This brings the organization’s final total to $8,998,564. “Just because we’ve surpassed our goal this year doesn’t mean we’re going to slow down, in fact we are planning to expand so we can help even more children next year,” said Kristin Lindsay, Foundation Coordinator, Child’s Play. Hospital wish lists are still available at Amazon and remain ripe for fulfillment. The organization is also still accepting donations via PayPal.

    Get fit by gaming with the ECAi’s “Gamers for Health”

    The Entertainment Consumers Association’s ECA Institute officially unveiled a new group today – Gamers for Health – that is designed to help you incorporate gaming into an active lifestyle. Gamers for Health will promote “healthy gaming,” and the website will act as a hub of sorts, allowing you to blog, share goals with others and even upload pictures and video. Gamers for Health also provides information on “exergames” and other programs. “To help promote the benefits of healthy gaming, our goal was to create a space for video game consumers to learn more about health and fitness, the expanding exergaming genre, and to provide the tools necessary to take action,” said Jennifer Mercurio, ECA Vice President & General Counsel. “With Gamers for Health, we’re creating a community of support and incentive, which is why some of us here at the ECA have already begun this program, and we’ll be offering incentives

    OnLive to be integrated into new Vizio products

    CES 2011 has kicked off with OnLive and Vizio announcing a partnership where the OnLive gaming service will be integrated into Vizio products. This includes HDTVs, tablets, Blu-Ray players and phones. “Today’s OnLive/VIZIO announcement marks a major milestone: for the first time in the history of video games, consumers will be able to enjoy premium video games directly on a TV, no console or computer needed.” said Steve Perlman, CEO of OnLive. “Vizio’s innovative and cutting-edge technologies are ideally aligned to complement OnLive’s vision for the future of entertainment and together we look forward to providing a wealth of diverse content to consumers this year.” This move is huge for OnLive as Vizio is very popular and popular amongst gamers due to their accessible price point. “Consumer adoption and feedback on VIA has been phenomenal, and we’re excited to work with OnLive to bring instant gaming direct to our products.”

    CES 2011 sees Stars

    CES starts this week in Las Vegas and with that means the stars will be coming out. Many companies hire stars to talk about their brand new gadgets. 50 Cent will be with Sleek Audio, signing autographs and talking about mobile audio. Aiden Turner, from All My Children will be talking about Ty, a cloud disc that attaches to personal possessions and prevents the loss of items. Snowboarder Seth Wescott will be talking at the Sports and Fitness Tech Summit. Bill Walton and Rick Fox will be at the Haler Booth. Earth, Wind and Fire will be holding a concert at the Monster Retailer Awards. Olivia Wilde will be out of the grid and talking with Piers Morgan and Common about their Blackberries. While we won’t be at CES this year (next year we’ll be doing video from CES), we will be posting news as we receive it!
