    Activision Blizzard scraps “True Crime,” 2011 “Guitar Hero” title

    So, Activision may have just killed the Guitar Hero franchise. “May have” is only because they’ve canceled one game this year and are cutting back staff in their music game department. Here’s their words… [D]ue to continued declines in the music genre, the company will disband Activision Publishing’s Guitar Hero business unit and discontinue development on its Guitar Hero game for 2011. So, it’s not completely dead (perhaps living on as DLC), but instead they might be spacing the installments out. But it seems more likely that the whole thing is on the chopping block for good. If we see another title, maybe it can just be a big surprise. But that franchise, as a whole, probably was turning into diminishing returns as far as the money side is concerned.     EA’s Karma Comes Back from Fox News

    Fox News has been in the game industry news this week due to carrying a story citing a doctor who is quoted as  saying: “If a younger kid experiences Bulletstorm’s explicit language and violence, the damage could be significant,” Dr. Jerry Weichman, a clinical psychologist at the Hoag Neurosciences Institute in Southern California, told FoxNews.com. “Violent video games like Bulletstorm have the potential to send the message that violence and insults with sexual innuendos are the way to handle disputes and problems,” Weichman said. It doesn’t help any that all last year video games were attacked continually with one study result after another. Iowa State Study parallels video game play and desensitization and violence.     The Next Big Thing Trailer

    Here is a trailer for an upcoming adventure game from Pendulo Studios, showing a new woman character. Dan Murray is one of the two playable characters in The Next BIG Thing, and Liz Allaire is Dan’s partner and the game’s female playable character. Known to be eccentric and hard working, Liz is both the youngest and the most promising journalist at the “Quill”. The game will feature HD graphics in a hand-drawn style. The Next Big Thing releases in April 2011 for PC and Mac.
