    Nintendo announces 3D Super Mario and Netflix

    Today Nintendo Co. president, Satoru Iwata made some interesting announcements at GDC 2011. In speaking about the Nintendo 3DS, Iwata announced a new Super Mario in 3D. More information on the title will be seen at E3 this June. Reggie Fils-Aime got on stage to talk about Nintendo’s partnership with Netflix. 3DS owners will be able to stream Netflix movies and tv shows onto the 3DS system. Also available for the 3DS is a new partnership with AT&T to provide 3DS owners free access to 10,000 wireless hotspots nationwide. “There is great potential to increase the number of people who enjoy video games by opening up new game-play opportunities that are only available through the use of 3D,” Iwata said. “Nintendo 3DS will be the most connected Nintendo device ever, with its ability to link people via local wireless connections, while at the same time connecting them to people and

    Sony unveils Move.Me project at GDC

    Today at GDC, Sony unveiled Move.Me, a software application that can be used to create new types of software applications using a PlayStation Move motion controller as an input device on PCs, through the PS3. “PlayStation Move’s camera-plus-controller combination allows for the most precise and immersive gaming experiences,” said John McCutchan, senior engineer, SCEA Developer Support. “Now we’re formally taking that advanced technology, which was almost ten years in the making, and offering it to innovators outside of our traditional game development community so they can create their own applications to impact the world in exciting new ways.” The Move.Me application is compatible with Windows or Linux-based computers and other devices like tablets and smartphones, can also receive PlayStation Move’s tracking data if they can connect to a PS3 system. Though, it will not require the PS3 system SDK or a licensing agreement, which I think is interesting…coming from Sony.

    ThinkGeek Partners with Q-Games for PixelJunk products

    ThinkGeek announced today a partnership between themselves and game developer, Q-Games Ltd., the creators of the PixelJunk series. “Partnering with Q-Games is a natural fit for us,” said Mike Kochis, Licensing Manager at ThinkGeek. “Many of our customers are fans of the series, and frankly, so are we.” PixelJunk Shooter 2, is available for download now from the PlayStation store.     Islands of WAKFU Coming Soon to XBLA

    Set 10,000 years before Ankama’s powerful MMO, DOFUS, Islands of WAKFU will bring fan into a new action adventure game. The game, will be available on XBLA at the end of this month, March 30th, and will set you back 1200 MS Points. In Islands of WAKFU you’ll be able to play as Nora an Eliatrope (same class as Yugo from the WAKFU series) or Efrim, her dragon brother. Or, you and a friend can head into the game together in co-op mode. The game has 14 levels and the game play switches between adventure and combat and when you fight, you’ll see the previously unreleased “dynamic system” which plays similar to an arcade style fighter. And the game will have beginner (Goddess) and experienced (Initiate) modes for you to try. The story will link with both DOFUS and WAKFU MMO counterparts, though it takes place so much earlier. Nora
