Interview: Matthew Harwood, Composer for Homefront

Recently, I had the pleasure of interviewing the composer who takes Homefront from being just another first-person shooter, to a moving experience within a not-so distant future through it’s amazing soundtrack.  Matthew Harwood tells us about his experience, his feelings and about the beginnings of a fantastic music career.  He was very open and excited to share with us.  I hope you Enjoy! GamingAngels: Tell us a bit about how you got into the game music scene. What was your first project? Matthew Harwood: Sure!  I am Matthew Harwood, I am the Audio Director at Kaos Studios.  Heading up most of the sound design in the game and composing the music for Homefront is where I spent much of my time during Homefront’s dev cycle. I live in the Hudson Valley of New York.  I am 6’4”.   I love my wife,  my 4 kids, and playing outdoors with them and my dog Wilson.

Featured Facebook Game of the Week

I got word of a new sort of match 3 game that is sort of a mix of Pogo.com’s Poppit and PopCap’s Blitz series with added “strategy elements” to reel in and challenge players. It’s called Poseidon’s Realm. I have just started playing it and I am intrigued. The basic mechanism of the game is to pop bubbles and form lines of three or more (odd shapes or groups don’t count unless it’s a square) scoring as many points as possible in one minute. There are gems exchangeable for power ups, experience points, and novel abilities that add levels of complexity to the game. For instance, as bubbles pop, the ones below them float up to fill in the gaps. Well, the grid is on a sort of wheel, so players have the ability to turn the game 1/4 turn in either direction in order to change the flow of

Amy Adams to star as Lois Lane in new Superman movie

Hollywood darling is going to play Superman’s darling, Lois Lane. The Zack Snyder directed film will star Henry Cavill, Diane Lane and Kevin Coster. Snyder remarked, “Second only to Superman himself, the question of who will play Lois Lane is arguably what fans have been most curious about. So we are excited to announce the casting of Amy Adams, one of the most versatile and respected actresses in films today. Amy has the talent to capture all of the qualities we love about Lois: smart, tough, funny, warm, ambitious and, of course, beautiful.” So for those that may be confused or maybe don’t know what Lois Lane is about…here are 6 facts about Lois Lane: 6. She first appeared in 1938 in Action Comics #1 5. She’s a reporter for the Daily Planet. The character is based on Torchy Blane, a female reporter from films in the 1930s. 4. Lois

PAX East 2011 – ‘Portal 2′ solo and an interview with Erik Wolpaw

I wanted to start this with a description of the footage we watched as part of our Portal 2 presentation. I’d go with the description if only because we weren’t supposed to record anything once we got in there (as far as I know), and I wasn’t about to incur Valve’s wrath. (I did deign to take the photo you see of the logo, mostly because I didn’t think that Valve would have a problem with that. We know what it looks like already.) But then I found out that other people dared to record it. Oh. So, here’s their video. It is exactly what we saw. (Remember to keep going past the video, though — there’s an interview down there, people!) However, I get it if you’re not the video-watching type. I really, really do. Especially when the video in question is, like, ten minutes long. So I guess

Ratchet and Clank soundtrack by Michael Bross

Soundtracks are important and Insomniac Games have chosen composer Michael Bross to create the soundtrack for Ratchet and Clank: All 4 One. Jamie McMenamy notes, “The deeper we get into the development of Ratchet & Clank: All 4 One, the more evident it becomes that Michael was the perfect choice as the composer for our project. His music is epic and innovative, providing the cutting edge sound and cinematic quality we desired for the game. We are truly excited to have him on board.” Bross himself is a fan of the Rachet and Clank series which should add to the quality of the project. “I’m incredibly excited to be working with the Insomniac team on such a fantastic franchise,” comments Bross. “It’s truly an honor to work on the project.” Ratchet and Clank: All 4 One will be coming to Playstation 3 in Fall 2011. Review: Dragon Age II

Genre: RPG Rating: M (for Mature) Developer: Bioware Publisher: Electronic Arts Release Date: March 2011 RENT I emerged last week from my first 7 year adventure in Kirkwall. Somewhere around the middle of the game, I created several saves, so that I could hop back into the game when it finished. I did exactly that just a few hours after finishing my first playthrough.  Now, I’m *this close* to finishing my second complete playthrough.  But here’s the thing, the more I pick up the game and play, the less enjoyable I’m finding the game — not because I don’t like the story or the characters, or even the game itself — but because I find more and more problems: bugs and glitches as I play. For instance, the day-one DLC “The Exiled Prince” had several issues on release, the biggest problem being that the achievements for the Xbox 360 version
