    PopCap’s Edgy & Creative Spawn

PopCap Games today announced the launching of a new creative outlet for their developers and designers. It’s a smaller games company which takes its name from the intersection where PopCap HQ stands, 4th & Battery. “4th & Battery is a pressure valve intended to keep our heads from exploding,” explained Ed Allard, Executive Vice President of Studios at PopCap. “The PopCap brand has become closely associated with ultra-high quality, polish and attention to detail — which is a great thing. But our standard game development process is therefore long and involved, and doesn’t really accommodate all of the creativity pumping through our collective veins. 4th & Battery gives us a way to quickly try really strange or marginal ideas, and to give our designers a safe area to hone their chops.” Not to mention giving the fans a fun, fresh way to appreciate the talent and potential talent stewing in

If you got ‘Dragon Age II,’ prepare your PC for a free copy of ‘Mass Effect 2′

Okay, not everyone is really digging BioWare’s Dragon Age II that much. Our own editor @Cherithe, who loves Dragon Age: Origins more than anyone I’ve ever known, wasn’t even that enthused by it. (And for completely understandable reasons.) But hey! If you activated your copy online, you’re halfway to getting a PC copy of a game that most people DID love — Mass Effect 2. Sure, it’s a year old, and it lacks DLC (including the Cerberus Network), but at least it made it onto some Game of the Year lists. (If I had to guess, DAII might not get that sort of love.) The offer only lasts until April 30, so the two-for-one price doesn’t have that much longer to go. Here’s the full list of redemption instructions: To qualify and get your Mass Effect 2 PC download code, please follow these steps before April 30, 2011 at 11:59pm

EA announces ‘Generations’ expansion for ‘The Sims 3′

Ever wish you could do a little bit more with your Sims during their life transition stages? Maybe that your father of two would have a mid-life crisis and come back with a convertible? You’re not alone. The Sims 3: Generations will give each life stage just a little bit more meat — children and teens can take after-school classes, Sims who have extramarital affairs might have to face a little community backlash and there’s even more stuff to play with aside from all that. Throw your Sims an expensive wedding, or, better yet, a nice bachelorette party. Just do your best to avoid the drama. Ha, like that’s even possible. The Sims 3: Generations ships May 31.

Aperture Science reveals the Home Safety Turret to potential pre-investors

Maybe it’s just me, but these little videos detailing the “investment opportunities” you can take advantage of with Aperture Science are still hilarious. This week, we learn about the Home Safety Turret, which apparently comes with a 33,000-page manual and is very, very dangerous — unless you program it properly! The turrets still come filled to the brim with bullets, have a wide variety of fashion options for the fashion-conscious scientist or home user (What’s up with that stripey orange one?) and still have that charming voice going for them. You’ll feel guilty about knocking them over in no time. Portal 2 is out in two weeks — April 19.
