Black Ops adds the ‘Escalation’ map pack on May 3

Call of Duty: Black Ops is getting another “content pack” — and this time it’s called “Escalation.” Ooh. The fact that this is happening is basically a giant “duh” moment, since they like to put out as much content as possible for these games (especially since people will keep paying for it). This one features four more multiplayer maps — Zoo, Convoy, Hotel and Stockpile — along with another Zombies experience in Call of the Dead. Apparently the entire game has already logged two billion hours of played, which is kind of ridiculous, and the first content pack sold 1.4 million units in the first 24 hours. We’ll see how this pack does when it’s released May 3 on Xbox 360, and who-knows-when on Ps3 and PC.

Let’s do the Release Date Shuffle: ‘Brink’ edition

Bethesda Softworks announced yesterday that Splash Damage’s new FPS Brink will actually be releasing one week earlier than scheduled. This moves its release date to May 10 for North America, and May 13 for Europe. Nice. “Production wrapped on Brink earlier than we planned and we didn’t see any reason to keep gamers from getting their hands on this highly anticipated game as soon as it was ready,” said Pete Hines, VP of PR and Marketing for Bethesda Softworks. “It’s apparent from the tremendous reaction so far that people are eager to jump online and play, and if we can make that happen earlier – we’re going to.” I’m pretty eager to play, yes, but it seems more like they’re moving out of L.A. Noire‘s way. Which…well, I can’t blame them. (Look what happened to Alan Wake‘s sales when it released on the same day as Red Dead Redemption, after

Xbox LIVE gets in on Royal Wedding fever

The world is going Royal Wedding Crazy — and Xbox LIVE (in the UK, anyway) got in on the frenzy by allowing users to vote for Kate and Wills’ official Royal Wedding avatar attire. Almost 50,000 users voted via the Xbox 360 Dashboard, and the clear winner (with 58% of the vote) is the “fairy tale white wedding” outfits on the far right in this picture. The rest of the standings were as follows: The “black tie” outfits, then the “Scottish Highlands” look, and understandably in last place: The “alternative cocktail” design. Yeah, that’s still kind of 80s prom, as far as Prince William goes. Hey, as far as Xbox LIVE avatar gear goes, I wouldn’t mind seeing some of this stuff available to us commoners. What do you all think?
