    Sony admits to halting PSN services due to ‘external intrusion’

    On April 20, Sony Computer Entertainment of America halted PlayStation Network services due to an “external intrusion on our system,” said Patrick Seybold, Sony’s director of communications. According to Seybold’s April 22 PlayStation.Blog post, PSN services were stopped in order to “conduct a thorough investigation and to verify the smooth and secure operation of our network services.” “Providing quality entertainment services to our customers and partners is our utmost priority,” Seybold said. “We are doing all we can to resolve this situation quickly, and we once again thank you for your patience.” According to a press release on Anonnews.org, the hacker group Anonymous has denied responsibility for the current attacks of PSN services stating “for once, we didn’t do it.” “A more likely [explanation] is that Sony is taking advantage of Anonymous’ previous ill-will towards the company to distract users from the fact the outage is actually an internal problem
