Free Portal 2 DLC coming this summer

Valve Software announced this afternoon that the first add-on content for Portal 2 will be released this summer. The creatively-titled “Portal 2 DLC #1” (that’s probably just a working title, but this is Aperture, so who knows) will contain new test chambers, challenge mode for both single- and multiplayer modes and leaderboards. (I tried to get a little more detail by clicking the link offered in the press release, but that…well, it went to the Left 4 Dead blog. I don’t know whether to read into that or not, especially because of the ARG before Portal 2′s release.) UPDATE: Doug Lombardi says it’s a random mistake. It would be cool if it wasn’t, though. This content will be free for all platforms. Valve also announced that Portal 2 is its fastest-selling release since Half-Life 2, so that’s also pretty impressive.

Rockstar reveals ‘L.A. Noire’ Social Club details

I don’t know if you joined Rockstar’s Social Club for Red Dead Redemption, but it was pretty cool. They’re bringing that functionality to this May’s L.A. Noire. You get a few neat features if you sign up for it — a new suit and the ability to ask the community which responses they’d use in certain situations, for one. Social Club members also get access to the 100% completion map, which lets you know exactly what you need to do to achieve that coveted goal. You’ll also be able to track case progress as well as achievement progress on the Internet. Pretty cool — I know I’ll be signing up. Check out the full list of perks here.

In the ongoing saga of this mess that is the PSN outage, one question hadn’t been answered yet: What about people who use their PS3s to play either Free Realms or DC Universe Online? Sony sort of attempted an answer at that with this Q&A, posted on PlayStation.Blog yesterday. Q: What if we have a subscription to PS3 MMOs DC Universe Online or Free Realms? Will we get compensation for that? A: From Sony Online Entertainment: “We apologize for any inconvenience players may have experienced as a result of the recent service interruption. As a global leader in online gaming, SOE is committed to delivering stable and entertaining games for players of all ages. To thank players for their patience, we will be hosting special events across our game portfolio. We are also working on a “make good” plan for players of the PS3 versions of DC Universe Online and
