Mass Effect 3 CE edition to have Male and Female Shepard art

Bioware has confirmed the Collector’s Edition of Mass Effect 3 the other day, but one of the more exciting details is a tweet from the Director of Marketing at Bioware: @dsilvermanea said, “@SilentKittyK the CE of #ME3 has both #FemShep and male Shepard on the box.” I remember several discussion on Women in Games forums questioning why Female Shepard wasn’t on the box cover. It was great to see that Bioware made her a similarly strong character, but if the characters are interchangeable, then why not feature both (or either) on the box? Well it looks like Bioware heard those discussions and are adding her to the Collector’s Edition. The collector’s Edition also includes: Premium metal case featuring commemorative artwork of both male and female versions of Commander Shepard. 70-page hardbound art book featuring hundreds of unique and gorgeous illustrations from the BioWare development team. Limited edition Mass Effect comic

Nintendo announces a slew of release dates

Your next year might be pretty busy, if you’re primarily a Wii and DS gamer, or at least someone with kids to entertain. Nintendo published a huge list of release dates for both consoles this weekend. Here’s some links to the Wii list and the DS list if you’d like to see them in their raw form. However, you don’t have to look at them that way if you don’t want to — Joystiq did some shuffling and managed to organize them in a much more readable fashion. (I thank them for that, seriously.) I’ve republished that whole list below. What are you shelling out for? 2K Play Wii: Nicktoons MLB — August Nickelodeon Dance — November DS: Nicktoons MLB — August Dora and Kai-Lan’s Pet Shelter — November Team Umizoomi — November Activision   Wii: Transformers: Dark of the Moon — June Skylanders Spyro’s Adventure — Oct. 16 Generator

    Supernatural Saturdays

Although I am totally going to geek out on Doctor Who and talk about what happened on this last episode before the summer break, that’s not actually all I am going to talk about here. First we have to get this out of the way: How come British SF tv is so much more awesome than American SF tv? Personally, I think the problem can be traced to the same idiocy that caused the SciFi channel to change their name to Syfy. If you are trying to appeal to science fiction fans, why would you want to disguise the fact that you are showing science fiction on your channel? Especially since that just enrages SF fans. Of course, it wasn’t like they were really showing much SF by that point anyway, but still. This attempt to straddle the line–keeping the sound of the name while trying to move away from

E3 Hands On: Sonic Generations and Sonic Sega Allstars Racing

A big part of the Sega booth at E3 this year was dedicated to everyone’s favorite speedy little blue hedgehog and his 20th anniversary. While there, I got to take a hands-on look at 2 new additions to the Sonic lineup that will be coming soon. The first title I got to take a look at was Sonic Generations, the latest in a classic Sonic style platformer for the Xbox 360, PS3 and Nintendo 3DS. I chose to try out the 3DS version and got to play through 2 levels in the new game. Generations is truly a “best of” collection of all of the most popular levels from the Sonic games throughout the years. You can choose to play as classic or modern Sonic, each with their own unique levels and styles of play. Even though the game has a huge nostalgia factor, someone like myself who is new

‘RAGE’ release date shifts to October

After an original release date set in September, it looks like id Software’s RAGE will be seeing a bit of a shift in its schedule. Rather than the original release date, now it seems that we’re looking at an October release: North America gets it October 4, Australia is next on October 5 and Europe gets it last on October 7. This is what happens when release dates are set over a year in advance…it’s pretty much just a setup for eventual failure to deliver. (But really, can we stop with the announcing release dates really early?) Follow

E3 Hands On Gadgets: with Nyko

Nyko Technologies is known for their lineup of chargers for various systems. Nyko always seems to offer products that solve issues gamers are having with their products but I believe their lineup at this year’s E3 has the best gaming accessories I have ever seen. The Nyko representatives were very understanding about how sick I felt. They got me into a room right away to start talking about their products. First up is the 3DS Power Grip. The 3DS Power Grip is very comfortable to hold in your hands. It’s smooth and does not feel like it adds any extra weight to the 3DS. The Power Grip has a built-in battery pack, which gives 3DS users 3x the battery life they normally would have. The 3DS Power Grip will be on sale this September for $29.99. The must have for 3DS users has to be the Shock n Rock

El Shaddai, Faxion and Planet Crashers at E3

The UTV Ignition booth at E3 held some of the most variety in an indie game booth that I saw this year. They are creating and/or publishing at least 10+ games right now that look nothing like each other on almost every platform from console, PC to iOS. In my visit to their booth, I got to see a closer look at three titles from UTV. The first game I saw is called El Shaddai. I’ll have to admit, El Shaddai looks nothing like anything I’ve played before. It is a Japanese-style single player, action console game for PS3 and Xbox 360. The thing that stood out to me most was the incredibly unique art style in this game. It has a very painterly, abstract art look with minimalist, stylized touches that made it visually stunning to see. The combat was a fast and flashy mix of action fighting game

Take a look at ‘Journey’ in thatgamecompany’s E3 trailer

thatgamecompany seems to have one common thread in all of its games, and that quality is that I have no idea what they’re actually about (apart from the title), but they sure do look pretty. This continues in their latest offering, Journey. It is presumably about a journey. A journey that is partially through a desert. And that art is…wow. All I can really recommend is that you watch this trailer to get a better sense of it, but you’ll probably come out just as dazed as I am. But in a really good way, I promise. Journey will have a release date assigned sometime in the future. Follow
