    Weekly Roundup Episode 14

It’s time for another Weekly Roundup! This week, we have our first voicemail question (!) from @tyrone_hawk, about how to get his wife to enjoy playing first-person shooters, instead of just watching. Then it’s on to what we’ve been playing this week, the Gears of War 3 debacle, Civilization’s new Facebook offering, more on the Wii U, Sony’s PSN Pass…and the Mass Effect movie. Because they’re bringing it to San Diego Comic Con in some manner. Hope you enjoy this week’s show! As always, we encourage you to check out our partners in GamingAngels Presents: The Married Gamers, Game Dames and PrincessCast. Be sure to take a listen to Blood Angels, our True Blood podcast. ALSO: We’ve got some new stuff coming up, but you’ll have to wait to hear more. If you want to contact us, you’ve got tons of options! ‘Dragon Age II’ leaves its ‘Legacy’ July 26

BioWare announced the first downloadable content, “Legacy,” for Dragon Age II yesterday. In it, Hawke is charged with ending the attacks of a cartel that is seeking “the blood of the Hawke.” This involves actually leaving Kirkwall, which is something I’m sure you’ll be happy to do, given that you have to go over every inch of that city multiple times in the main game. So, where are you off to? A few new places, actually, including an “ancient Grey Warden prison.” From any point in the main Dragon Age II campaign, you’ll be able to discover the truth about the Hawke lineage…and as it goes, the truth isn’t always pretty. You’ll also fight new darkspawn, forge a new, powerful, class-specific weapon and face some sort of horror that isn’t the truth about your lineage. On July 26, the DLC will be available on PlayStation 3 ($9.99), PC, Mac (800

    Kickstart Womanthology!

I am so impressed and excited about the Womanthology project on on Kickstarter. It’s a massive undertaking headed by Renae De Liz, illustrator of The Last Unicorn for IDW Publishing (which was beautiful btw). IDW has offered to publish the book that features an assortment of over 140 female creators. You can see the full list here. The project is on Kickstarter because the proceeds of the book will be going to a charity, GlobalGiving.org. So the Kickstarter is to run a small print run of 1500 copies for $25,000. It just launched yesterday and as of today has $23,622. Every donation has something you receive for your pledge. It varies with the larger amounts offering one of a kind rewards. I donated earlier today and I really encourage you to donate if you can. It’s great to see a project like this be made in a time where Women

Bethesda and Arkane Studios announce ‘Dishonored’ for 2012

The first-person action title Dishonored will be Arkane Studios’ first game since their acquisition by Bethesda Softworks’ parent company, ZeniMax Media, in 2010. The game will feature the creative direction talents of Raphael Colantonio, who previously served as lead designer on Arx Fatalis, and Harvey Smith, whose previous design experience includes Deus Ex. “At Arkane we have a passion for creating deep, immersive game experiences,” said Colantonio. “To be able to finally share details of our project is both extremely exciting and satisfying.” I wish I could tell you more, but it looks like we’ll have to wait until Game Informer‘s August issue to hear more. Dishonored will be released sometime next year for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC. For more on Dishonored, visit their website at http://www.dishonored.com.

Mary Jane is coming to ‘L.A. Noire’ on July 12

Sweet lady Mary Jane is the focus of L.A. Noire‘s next downloadable case, “Reefer Madness,” obviously for the Vice desk. If that’s not so obvious, think green, but not necessarily organic. Or grass. If you don’t get it yet…it’s all about marijuana, if the title’s to be believed. Here’s a description via Rockstar: “When a tip from an informant leads Detective Cole Phelps and his Vice desk partner Roy Earle to a local L.A. drug dealer, a deadly shootout ensues and they suddenly find themselves in the throes of one of the city’s biggest narcotics rings.” “Reefer Madness” releases July 12 on PS3 and 360, for $3.99 and 320 MS Points, respectively. Watch the trailer: Nice to see where some of the screenshots we have actually came from…

Now you too can be a DJ (AKA: how I entertain myself at work)

If you haven’t seen the Facebook or Twitter updates, there is this new site that is in some form of beta (I believe) called turntable.fm. Just as you can infer, it lets you be a DJ in the sense that you can build your own playlists to share with others. The interface itself is rather simple: you have an avatar you go by, and you join rooms where you can make lists and then DJ. You can also create your own rooms, public or private, where you can hold control over who can DJ as well as who comes into the room. Building the playlist is probably my most favorite part. You are given the option to search the turntable.fm database for songs or upload your own songs. The latter is great for any artists or people who like to make their own remixes or mashups and want to share
