Weekly Roundup Episode 17 – The Live Edition

Hey there everyone! It’s time for a historical first that we pulled off on a whim – the first-ever Weekly Roundup Live Show, broadcasting on this Ustream channel. You could have actually seen us talking — if you were there. Trina and I think it went pretty well, but we won’t do it again unless you like it. So let us know! We will probably be back next week, though. (Also — be a dear and leave some iTunes reviews, will you? Need the .mp3? It’s right here.) On tap this week: The ESA’s charging California for their legal fees, mostly because California was too dumb to realize that the Supreme Court’s opinion wouldn’t be too much different from other courts’. (Sorry, but it’s true.) BioWare’s letting us choose a FemShep…and she looks like so many other heroines. Great? GamePro magazine is making the switch to quarterly. Stripgamer. It exists.

First DLC for ‘Brink’ coming August 3

The first DLC set for Brink, “Agents of Change,” is set to make its debut on Xbox LIVE, PSN and Steam next week, on August 3. It will be free to download for the first two weeks. The original target date for this content was “early July,” but better late than never, right? Here’s a quick description from Splash Damage/Bethesda: Secrets, lies, and double agents. The revived battle spreads to two all-new districts of the Ark – the futuristic, underwater Labs facility and Founders’ Tower, the iconic spire housing the island’s wealthy elite. Unleash fury on your enemies with new lethal abilities as your work your way towards the newly raised level cap of 24 and customize your character with

Humble Indie Bundle 3 adds some free ‘Minecraft’ time to the deal

Purchasers of the third Humble Indie Bundle now get an additional treat — free access to Minecraft until August 14. So now the deal is five (great) games, and Minecraft, too. If you haven’t given it a shot yet, this is your chance. This is just another way that developer Notch is helping out with this particular bundle. He’s currently the top contributor after paying $4,048 for the five-game set, which includes VVVVVV — a game he’s designed levels for. Pick your bundle up now — it only lasts for 11 more days. Nintendo execs taking pay cut due to the 3DS’ poor performance

Nintendo president Satoru Iwata is taking full responsibility for the Nintendo 3DS’ current low sales, and he’s going about that in a very personal way. The handheld will get a significant price cut next month (down about 40 percent), so now Nintendo will actually lose money for each unit sold. Iwata has chosen to take a 50 percent pay cut, bringing his salary down to about $1 million a year. Still more than I’ll ever make, so I wouldn’t complain. Other directors close to the project will take a 30 percent pay cut, and some other executives will have their salaries reduced by 20 percent. It’s all in the interest of making sure the 3DS lives a long life. I guess they’ve got to make up that money somehow, right? It’s actually kind of noble for the executives to give it up (or at least accept the proposal).   Follow
