    Companions RPG for iOS

Companions is a recent indie top-down RPG -ish strategy game for iOS. It is much more heavily a strategy game with old school gameplay mechanics. It can actually be challenging and quite difficult, if you haven’t played one of these before. It has the grid based navigation like a tower defense game. However, one gamer’s challenge can be another gamer’s annoyance. In Companions there are two game modes, which are the quick play ‘Single Map’ mode, and the Campaign mode. Each of the members of the four person team has a little backstory. The controls are simple taps on the characters and then a tap on the enemies to attack. Each party member has three special skills that they can equip at a time. They are limited by cool down times as you would normally see. Graphics are limited. It’s very pixelish. You don’t actually see your characters in three

‘Max & the Magic Marker’ arrives on Nintendo DS this holiday

Easy Interactive is bringing the cutesy indie game Max and the Magic Marker to Nintendo DS this holiday. The game is already available on PC, WiiWare, Mac, iPhone, iPad, and Windows Phone 7, so this is just another addition to the “platforms that require pointing at something” list. Here, you’ll be using your DS stylus as the titular magic marker, which you use to draw items into the game world. That magic marker is definitely necessary to solve the puzzles you’ll encounter on the way to destroying the monster that Max himself created. You know, with the magic marker you control. Wouldn’t some good stain removers or washable markers just solve all of these problems? Oh well. Features include: Three stunning worlds 15 challenging levels Variety of challenges, secrets and rewards to unlock Intuitive use of the DS stylus as the magic marker Original soundtrack by Danish band Analogik So,

Some of ‘LEGO Universe’ goes free-to-play

If you’re okay with messing around in the very limited free-to-play portion of LEGO Universe, you can start that today. Simply download the client here for PC or Mac and get started. You’ll be able to explore several portions of the online world, including The Venture Explorer and Avant Gardens. I’d argue that the best part of the experience would be the minifig creation process. Of course, you might get tired of that small area pretty quickly. If that happens, a subscription’s only $10 a month and you don’t have to buy the client anymore, either. Pretty affordable compared to other MMO experiences, right? Follow

‘Arkham City’ is just a little more…frozen

You know one villain we haven’t seen in a Batman game in a while that is not populated by digital versions of George Clooney and Chris O’Donnell? Mr. Freeze. Batman: Arkham City appears to be changing that. And absolutely zero Arnold Schwarzenegger is involved. So there’s that. You’ll be fighting on Victor’s turf, so be prepared for things to get a little slippery. Watch this trailer below to get a sense of what you’ll be dealing with. Follow
