Download the ‘Assassin’s Creed Revelations’ beta today to start playing tomorrow

If you’re a PlayStation Plus or Uplay member (the latter of which is free, by the way), you can get access to the Assassin’s Creed Revelations multiplayer beta. That beta starts tomorrow. But, if you don’t want to be stuck waiting for a download to finish while your friends are all playing, you can start downloading the beta content now. It’s sort of an “I’ll gladly pay you today for a hamburger tomorrow” kind of thing. A “Reverse Wimpy,” if you will. This beta offers nine different characters on three maps with four modes, which Ubisoft says is just a taste of the final content. You can get the full tasting menu on November 15 when the game is released.

That game you’ve been playing for years has a new installment coming out on November 8. You know you’re going to buy it, but just in case you needed some convincing…Activision’s released this Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 trailer to help you make up your mind. Perfect way to get the COD XP weekend off to a start, I suppose.

Namco Bandai celebrates Labor Day with sales!

Labor Day weekend is sometimes viewed as the last weekend of summer. But it started as a celebration for workers and their families. A way to relax from all the “labor”. The modern day version of that relaxation can mean to do nothing but play video games. To that point, Namco Bandai is helping gamers do that and save money too. The games will be discounted at the indicated pricing from 7 p.m. PST Thursday, September 1 until 10 a.m. PST Tuesday, September 6. Most games are at 50% off and are for iOS and Android devices. First Hunger Games movie trailer

The first trailer for the Hunger Games movie was shown during the VMA awards this past Sunday:   I am sorry, did I miss the part where they indicated in any way what the movie is about? I mean, sure, Katniss looks pretty cool, in a generic, athletic sort of way, but anyone not familiar with the books could be forgiven for thinking this movie is about some kind of gymnastics or sporting demonstration, not a fight to the death to feed all of the people in the teenage competitors’ districts. “All they want is a good show”? That seems like a pretty innocuous way to describe a bloodsport to me. What do you think? Are you looking forward to this movie? If you haven’t read the books, does this trailer appeal to you at all?

When is Run ‘N’ Gun Really a Great Tactic?

I’ve had the discussion of “running and gunning it” come up a lot lately, ever since I started to play Deus Ex: Human Revolution. The first time it came up was when I was telling a friend how much I was looking forward to playing DXHR, because I like how it gives you options in how to play. I don’t have much patience, and I’m horrible at stealth, so I was pleased to learn that I won’t get a MISSION FAIL if I get caught (sure, I might die, but that’s not really what I’m referring to here). My friend brushed me off and said, “Well, if you run and gun it, you won’t last long.” I didn’t reply, because I was trying to pick out where I said “run and gun.” Now that the game is out, friends feel the need to keep telling me, “You know, you can’t

Manga Review: Soil by Atsushi Kaneko

I read manga every night. It’s my guilty pleasure and an insomniacs ticket to dreamland. I read several popular ones like Bleach, Claymore, Fairytail, Vampire Knight, Kuroshitsuji, and Kanojo Wo Mamoru 51 No Houhou, to name a few favorites. From time to time I get tired of the formula. Slice of life, high school kids doing this or that, or some such about nothing. There aren’t updates everyday to read, so occasionally I’ll do searches. On one particular night I set the search engine I was using for ‘mystery’ and found Soil. SOIL is a parapsychological mystery by Atsushi Kaneko. It begins with a story that seems to be about two detectives and the disappearance of a family. Set in weirdly named “Soil New Town” (New Soil Town?), which seems to be a sleepy pastoral community, of course appearances are deceiving. As it is presented, you may empathize with the

    PAX Preview: Borderlands 2

One of the many things I was extremely excited to see at PAX Prime was Borderlands 2.  I love all kinds of games, but at times like this it becomes obvious that at heart I am such a FPS girl.  2K set up camp in “FPS Alley” as I coined it.  Once you entered the far right gate of the convention center there was Battlefield 3, Counter Strike,  and 2K with Xcom, Borderlands 2, and Darkness 2.  So many shooters, so little time!  The line for Borderlands became epic within a few minutes.  They were checking IDs since this game will be rated M and so was the developer discussing the game. It’s been five years in Pandora and things have changed.  Handsome Jack has teamed up with the Hyperion Corporation and created a base on the moon. Who is he you might ask?  One of, and probably the most

I realize this won’t win me any popularity contests and is a bold statement for my first review here on Gaming Angels – however, I always feel that honesty is the best policy! The artwork in this second edition of Fraggle Rock: Tails and Tales is phenomenal. From the epic cover illustration of Mouse Guard’s David Petersen to the vivid coloring of Katie
