PAX Preview: All Zombies Must Die

As we gamers are all aware, the zombie apocalypse is coming – and soon. So who’s better to handle it than us gamers, right? All Zombies Must Die is a RPG and weapons-based arena combat game developed by doublesix, the same guys who brought us the highly flammable game, Burn, Zombie, Burn! Though AZMD and BZB have some similarities in terms of fighting hordes of brain-craving zombies, AZMD offers uniquely different gameplay strategies then its previous successor. Who knew gaming addictions could be so helpful? In All Zombies Must Die, you first play as Jack, a gaming fanatic who believes that he’s the badass hero in a zombie video game (and not that he’s actually in any – you know – real danger). The first character I met in the demo was Rachel, an extremely pissed ex-girlfriend of Jack. Though it seems she would rather see her ex be ripped

    Gail Simone Tweet Memes

It is possible that @GailSimone is my favorite person that I follow on Twitter. She’s just so much fun! Case in point, two hashtags she recently started. The first, #comicbookconspiracytheorys / #comicbookconspiracytheories, started with this tweet: @GailSimone: Dear conspiracy theorists, no, DC did not deliberately under print the new 52. The books got overprints and are selling out anyway. After that, things just got silly. Some of the best tweets: @Samlsacke: @GailSimone crisis on infinite earths happened because reagenomics demanded one earth #comicbookconspiricytheorys @GailSimone: If you look closely, you can see a pre-natal Jim Lee on the Zapruder film. #comicbookconspiricytheorys @T_Lawson: @GailSimone Barbara Gordon’s return as Batgirl is a direct result of passing Obamacare. #comicbookconspiracytheories @ZackCantrell: @GailSimone something something Free Masons, Thomas Jefferson, Knights Templar, New 52, something something #comicbookconspiracytheories @jester1436: @GailSimone You’re really a very sophisticated writing robot created by the men at DC to fill a quota. #comicbookconspiricytheories

‘NHL 12′ adds female option to custom player creation

You may or may not know this, but women play hockey. There are a lot of them who do, actually. So when 14-year old hockey fan Lexi Peters sat down to play an EA NHL title, she was sad to find out that she couldn’t play as a female athlete in the game. Lexi’s been playing hockey for four years. She just wanted to make a character that looked like herself. Most women know that feeling, I bet. So instead of brushing it off, Lexi wrote a letter to EA. Initially, the reaction was a bit of a cold one, and not just because the game is literally on ice. EA just didn’t think the NHL would let that happen. Wrong. NHL‘s lead producer, David Littman, went to the NHL, asked for permission to include female players and got it. Now, Lexi is going to be the default female character

DFC Intelligence says Wii U sales won’t top Wii

DFC Intelligence released a report last week that reflected on the future of the gaming industry. People are always speculating on when Microsoft and Sony are planning to update their systems. Nintendo is the only company that we know will have a new system next year and DFC Intelligence says that while it will sell well, it won’t beat out the Wii sales. “Systems like the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 are having their best sales ever five or six years into their lifecycle. Unfortunately this means Microsoft and Sony are in no hurry to launch new systems that would generate substantial consumer excitement and spending,” says DFC analyst David Cole. DFC forecast that the Nintendo Wii U will have strong sales, but will not reach the level of success of the first Wii system. “The dedicated console business is still the major driver of industry growth, but we feel

GameStop is launching their own Android tablet, accepting iOS devices for trade

Two big moves in the tablet gaming space for one game retailer have been confirmed today. GameStop has selected an Android tablet model to serve as their “official” gaming platform next year. These tablet models will launch with some titles pre-installed. “We’re in test phase right now,” GameStop president Tony Bartel told GamesIndustry.biz. “But we’re excited at the prospect of coming out with this tablet. I would call it a ‘GameStop certified gaming platform.’ We looked at all the tablets and these are the ones that really worked for gaming and we’re going to give you a few benefits that you’re not going to get elsewhere.” The eventual intent for the tablet will be for it to stream console games (using the service they’re developing with recently-acquired Spawn Labs). The unit will ship with a special controller for this purpose. GameStop will also begin to accept Apple devices running iOS
