3DS sales up over 260 percent following price cut

Nintendo’s price cuts are definitely working in North America — the company sold over 235,000 3DS systems in the United States in August, according to NPD, which tracks game sales in the U.S.

185,000 of those were sold after a price cut that took effect on August 12. Compared to that part of July, sales are up over 260 percent.

To put that in slightly different numbers, Nintendo was selling an average of 4,500 3DS units in August pre-price cut, and over 10,000 a day afterward. That’s a definite improvement during the month, at least.

“Consumers are responding very positively to the new suggested retail price of $169.99 for the Nintendo 3DS,” said Scott Moffitt, Nintendo of America’s executive vice president of Sales & Marketing.

Now, we just need more good, non-first-party titles!
