New, magical PS3 bundle switches the focus away from games

Sony announced their new holiday bundle today, and there’s…well, not a game in it. The newest addition to the bundlesphere includes a 3D copy of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows — Part 2, a PS3 system (obviously), and vouchers to download the first two movies in the Harry Potter series. This new focus on 3D in a bundle is nicely-timed, given that Sony recently released its new PlayStation-branded 3D display on November 13.

    Convention Beat: November 2011

Despite planning ahead, illness has made me late again this month. Once again, I am wishing I had an unlimited travel budget, along with no other job or family to tie me down to home. There are a lot of fun things happening! Note: I have tried to include information on a variety of science fiction/fantasy, gaming and generally geeky conventions, but I am not guaranteeing this covers everything. Please feel free to suggest other conventions, for this month or future months in the comments! Hurricane Who November 3-5 Orlando, FL Naoko Mori from Torchwood and Arthur Darvill (Rory) will be at this convention, which seems totally cool for a Dr. Who Convention. Also featured are Jeremy Bulloch, who played Boba Fett in the Star Wars franchise, and Paul Bradford from Ghost Hunters, who seem a bit more tangential to the theme (although Jeremy Bulloch has guested on Dr. Who),

‘Dead Island’ DLC finally arrives November 22

Techland’s Dead Island has been promised DLC since its release on PS3, Xbox 360 and PC in September. Yesterday, we finally got word that the content’s arrival is imminent — November 22. The “Bloodbath Arena,” which is free to all who pre-ordered the game and $9.99/800 Microsoft Points for everyone else, offers four arenas and multiple challenges for co-op mode. In this mode, which seems to amount to a zombie survival challenge, you collect experience points that you can bring over to the main campaign. This content also adds leaderboards and a new weapon, the brain wave bomb. Somehow, I don’t think I want to know what that is.

Tell us your noob story for a chance to win COD MW3

I love the series of Call of Duty commercials that feature the average person in a simulated war. The marketing concept that “There is a Soldier in All of us” is genius. It’s also very welcoming of all types of gamers. I love the way that someone helps a n00b through the commercial until he (in the commercial it’s a dude) gets the hang of it and then starts to help others. Very inspiring. At GamingAngels we know that this time of year is really tough for people to have money to a)buy the games they want and b) have the money to buy the games they want. So we have a special surprise for you. Leave a blog comment about your n00b moment in gaming. It can be about any game on any console. The prize is a copy of Call of Duty MW3 on Xbox 360. Enter the

    The Pottermore Experience

I was having a late night with my one year old son, Severus, and to keep myself awake I browsed through Tumblr. When I came across yet another hilarious picture reblogged by someone I followed, a picture of the cast of the Harry Potter movies with wording over it that simply said; Remember when we thought we’d all be addicted to Pottermore? #Awkward And that is precisely how the experience can be summed up. I participated in the Magic Quill trivia in August, and received beta access in September. At first, I was put off by not being able to choose my own username, but I picked the most befitting of the options and it has grown on me since then. I tore through the site voraciously, upon my first official log in – desperate to get to the thrilling parts of receiving my wand and being Sorted. Both events

Joystick Junkies create store for DICE

DICE is a much loved studio that recently created Battlefield 3. Now gamers can buy posters, tshirts, hoodies and dog tags at the official DICE store created and run by Joystick Junkies. The dog tags are the latest in the store. A different dog tag is created per user role that you like to play. They are nicely engraved and seem to have the right amount of worn to make it look authentic. The dog tags are listed at $15.99 each. The female section has two t-shirts and a polo shirt, but they have assured me that more will be coming. The Battlefield 3 hoodie is awesome!
