    ESA awards 30 scholarship grants for 2011-2012

    Thirty students, all women or minorities, will receive scholarship grants from the Entertainment Software Association Foundation for the 2011-2012 school year. The $3,000 scholarships were offered to students enrolled full-time at accredited four-year colleges and universities as well as graduating high school seniors who plan to go into fields necessary for video game creation, including graphic design, computer science, animation, computer programming, software engineering and digital entertainment. “ESA is proud to support the next generation of video game industry innovators. This year’s scholarship recipients have the talent and passion needed to succeed in our industry, and we are confident they will go on to create games that will entertain, educate and inspire,” said Michael D.     Child’s Play raises over $1.5M following gala and auction

    2011′s Child Play donation totals are over $1.5 million after the community helped raise $351,000 at the annual Child’s Play Gala and Auction. What kinds of items were up for grabs at this year’s auction? A life-size Gravity Gun (you know, like the one from Half-Life) went for $21,000, while a copy of Nintendo World Championships (AKA one of the rarest games in the world) went for $11,500. Someone even won a guest spot in a Penny Arcade strip. I’m officially jealous of these people. “The gala and auction always brings in a lot of donations, but it is just one part of Child’s Play,” said Jamie Dillion of Child’s Play Charity.  “The real heroes are all the gamers who organize local events and send in individual donations that account for the vast majority of what we raise every year.  We couldn’t do this without all of their support.” The
