5 geeky reasons to want the new iPad

Apple held their conference this morning and while they announced the new Apple TV (only $99), geeks everywhere were waiting for the details on the new iPad. I know I want one. But then again I waited and did not purchase the first iPad or iPad2. But I yearned for it. iPad envy at every convention or event I went to. Which is why I’m sure I’ll be purchasing one of these as soon as I can (the Apple store is having issues right now). But as a geek, why do you want the new iPad? Well here are a few reasons. 1) Retina display is amazing! The new Retina display is 2048 x 1536 pixels. 99 Games made a blog post that shows the difference in their game apps as to what the Retina display provides. Basically this iPad has more pixels than an HDTV. The dots per inch

It’s confusing to know whether or not your comics are available on a particular e-reader or tablet. Dark Horse sent us a press release stating that Dark Horse Graphic Novels will now be in the Nook Comics store. Not just a few, but over 100 titles are featured including Mass Effect, Hellboy, Star Wars, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Serenity, Sin City and more. “Making our content available on new platforms outside of the Apple iOS is an incredibly exciting proposition,” said Matt Parkinson, Dark Horse’s senior director of Marketing. “As we move into new areas and new devices, we look forward to the opportunity to find new readers. I can’t think of a better partner than Barnes & Noble, the leading retailer of digital content and media and the folks behind the number-one chain of bookstores in the country.” More titles will be added to the Nook store every month.

Blizzard lets you start at Level 80 Ding!

Maybe you or a friend walked away from World of Warcraft for a little while. You’ve thought about going back, but grinding and starting all over doesn’t seem like a great prospect. Well put away your excuses because Blizzard just made it easier to get back in the game. Using the World of Warcraft Scroll of Resurrection, existing players can invite old friends back to the game. Both players benefit by getting pretty cool swag. The person that accepts the Scroll gets a single character at level 80 already. Also a free upgrade to Cataclysm (for you old timers), an optional free character move and faction change in order to join friends that may have changed to the dark side, and 7 free days of game time to suck you back in. Players that give a Scroll and that resurrected friend renews and pays for at least 30 days of

Three New Expansion Packs for ‘Battlefield 3’

Electronic Arts is bringing three new gun slinging expansion packs to Battlefield 3. In June, Battlefield 3: Close Quarters comes out followed by Armored Kill in the fall and End Game in the winter.   “Instead of delivering piecemeal map packs, we’re giving players a completely new experience with every themed expansion pack to keep the action fresh,” said Patrick Bach, Executive Producer of Battlefield 3.”Our expansions are designed to excite our large and active fan base while attracting new recruits with gameplay that is dynamic and unpredictable every time.” Close Quarters plunges players in a frenzy of infantry only fighting. The expansion pack also brings new weapons, assignments and dog tags to the game. Armored Kill focuses on causing even more havoc than usual with new tanks, ATVs and mobile artillery. It will also feature the biggest map in Battlefield history. There currently aren’t details for End Game, but

Mom’s A Geek: Exploring Science And Making Salt Crystals

What You’ll Need: A Glass Jar A String A Paperclip A Pencil/Pen/Stick Water (You’ll be boiling it, so those supplies are necessary too) A Butt Ton Of Salt Patience Directions: Cut the string, tie the paperclip to one end and the pen/pencil/stick to the other. Put aside for now. Boil about a cup of water, this doesn’t need to be precise. Pour the boiled water into the glass jar. SLOWLY stir in the salt. Add more in small increments, until the salt stops dissolving in the water. Utilize patience here. Place the paperclip in the water, roll the string around the pen/pencil/stick until the paperclip doesn’t touch the bottom of the jar. Paperclip should still be completely submerged in the water. Wait. More patience needed here. After 48 hours, I noticed we weren’t growing any more crystals and removed the paper clip from the water to see what would happen.
