Zynga buys ‘Draw Something’ creator OMGPOP

The Wall Street Journal’s “All Things D” is reporting that OMGPOP, creators of Draw Something, has been purchased by Zynga. Sources close to the deal report that the developer was bought for $180 million, with another $30 million in employee retention payments. OMGPOP is based in New York, with a team of about 40 people. This is obviously not Zynga’s first acquisition — they previously bought Newtoy, the company behind Words with Friends, and Area/Code, makers of Drop7. In a conference call this afternoon, the purchase was confirmed. OMGPOP also detailed their plans to add chat and picture saving to the app (finally).   Follow

Would you give up your Facebook password for a job interview?

I heard about this on the radio and thought I was going crazy. It seems that some companies are asking job seekers for their Facebook or Twitter passwords. The reason given is so that employers can look over their page before hiring them. While I know the job market has become very competitive because of the amount of people looking for a job, it makes no sense for companies to ask for your password. Companies have so many ways to do background checks and most social media is open to the public. There is an app called BeKnown that can scan Facebook pages to create profiles. To ask for a password to personal space before you are hired is ridiculous and can be dangerous for identity theft. At current time, no one is challenging the legal aspects of asking. Unfortunately some job seekers are handing over their information because they

Either using the official website or the Twitter hashtag #MyMaddenCoverVote fans can vote for their favorite player, or they can fill out a bracket on Facebook and compete for a chance to win Super Bowl tickets and copies of the game. Voting ends April 25. Last year almost 13 million people voted resulting in Peyton Hillis winning. “Every football fan has an opinion on who should be on the Madden NFL cover, which was highly visible given the overwhelming response and debate that ensued during last year’s campaign,” said director of marketing Anthony Stevenson. “We’re proud to once again put the fate of the game’s cover in our fans’ hands and let them decide who is worthy of becoming the Madden NFL 13 cover athlete,”

    Relinquishing My Square Enix Fangirl

When I worked at the now nonexistent Kombo, I was known as the Square Enix fangirl. If Square Enix developed it or published it, I was the one who instantly squealed with delight and loved everything about it. When I went to E3 with them in 2010, the directors assigned me to every Square Enix meeting they could conjure up. It was more than fine with me, but my buddy–yeah, we had the buddy system–was less than enthused, poor guy. In fact, it was because of a Square Enix game (Kingdom Hearts) that I got back into gaming after many years of not touching my NES since Super Mario Bros. 3. So it’s really with great sadness for me that I am stepping down from my fangirldom. The final catalyst happened once I finished Final Fantasy XIII-2, but the writing has been on the wall for me for some time.
