    Amigurumi!

Crocheting is my latest obsession, and one thing that has really caught my eye on Pinterest, craft blogs and the wider internet is amigurumi. Have you seen this stuff? It is so cute, and the potential for geeky fun is enormous! For instance, check out Nerdigurumi (on youtube, too!). Also, just look at how much Star Wars Amigurumi you can buy on Etsy! This free Yoda Amigurumi pattern is pretty awesome, too. I have been resisting taking the plunge into amigurumi myself, because I have so many other projects already in progress. However, this weekend I couldn’t wait any longer, and I had to buy Crobots by Nelly Pailloux. I am so glad I did! The little stuffed toys are so cute, from an adorable dogbot to a hilarious zombiebot to an awesome ninja. My 9 year old son is so enamored of the entire concept that he asked me

Dallas Comic-Con: Great Recipe, but Needed to Stay in the Oven a Bit Longer

I honestly had no idea what to expect when I rolled up to Dallas Comic-Con. I’ve been to a few comic expos in the DFW area and to A-kon and AnimeFEST numerous times, so I was expecting something akin to those in terms of turnout. Sure, DCC had some very big names appearing–Patrick Stewart, Stan Lee, and Kevin Conroy were the main headliners–but really, this shouldn’t be any bigger than A-kon was in its heyday. Oh, how very wrong I was. It turns out that Comic Fans + Trekkies = need a bigger venue. The Irving Convention Center was really not well equipped to handle this many people, and it didn’t help that the convention staff itself seemed very unprepared for how to deal with it as well. For starters, the parking situation was worse than abysmal. The center parking lot was already full two hours before the con start,

EA makes a smart move with Origin

Electronic Arts announced that they will be waiving distribution feeds on Origin for any developer that has a successfully crowd-funded, ready to publish PC game. This is INCREDIBLY smart of EA to take on. Origin will provide distribution services for free for 90 days after the games launch, giving the company a chance to let 12 million registered users know about their game. “Crowd-funded projects are like the ‘people’s choice awards’ — a way for gaming fans to express what they want to buy and play,” said Jane Jensen, President, Pinkerton Road. “It’s great to see a big publisher like EA acknowledging that and opening up distribution opportunities for these games.” One developer is already planning to release to the Origin subscribers: “I have had a long relationship with EA and it is great to see them recognize and support the crowd-funded games model,” said Brian Fargo, CEO, inXile Entertainment.

Toonami is BACK on May 26th

Well Toonami fans, Adult Swim has answered your prayers. Returning on May 26th is the exciting block of action cartoons and anime. Adult Swim’s April Fools Joke was to play their old Toonami block for one night which set the internet afire as fans told other fans resulting in no one sleeping. Now, Adult Swim has recently announced that the block will be returning. Toonami was one of the few sources for great anime back in the day. It showed the likes of Dragonball, Dragonball Z, Sailor Moon, Yu Yu Hakasho, Outlaw Star, several Gundam titles, etc. Twenty-something anime fans probably owe quite a lot to Toonami and, now, we get to relive those sleepless Saturday nights of our youth. It is unsure if Toonami will run alongside the current Adult Swim programming, but we shall all find out on May 26. Just to add a bit of nostalgia, here is

To Lydia With Love, Two More Times

Kristen Nedopak, the hardest working woman on the web, currently has a plan to get two more Skyrim parody videos created to follow up her super successful Skyrim: To Lydia With Love video, and she needs your help to get them done! One of the main things Kristen talked about in her interview with us a while back was the need for community when trying to create your own content. Without community, it can be very difficult to get creator owned content not only made but finished and distributed for an audience to see. As Kristen is always more than willing to help out other creators with their projects, now’s the perfect chance to return the favor and help her out a little with her projects. You don’t have to be skilled in the art of  Thu’um to help out, or even smithing or necromancing to help out (she’s making it

What to expect when you’re expecting was unexpectedly emotional

This week we were treated to an early screening of What to Expect when you’re Expecting. I met up with Carolyn from This Talk Ain’t Cheap at the theater and we were treated to a glass of wine before the movie. What to Expect when your’re Expecting is a well known book series that has been transformed into a movie. The movie covers various scenarios that women trying to get pregnant or not trying find themselves in. We see the scenarios from the character’s viewpoints but there are also transitions where situations overlap. The movie follows five couples in Atlanta. All of them experience the highs and lows of pregnancy. The cast is incredible. Cameron Diaz,Jennifer Lopez,Elizabeth Banks,Dennis Quaid,Chris Rock, Anna Kendrick, Matthew Morrison, and the very hot,(yes you get to see him without his shirt on) Joe Manganiello. Rebel Wilson (from Bridesmaids) is also in the movie and she

What to do when you are at work instead of playing Diablo III

Today many of us had to go to work while others played the sick card to play Diablo III. Although the day has not been kind to those that stayed home (Blizzard has had some server issues), we felt the need to offer advice for those of us that have to work 8 or more hours before we can go home and play. Hope that the servers let up by the time the clock hits 5pm and laugh when people complain of getting the Error 37 all day. Block hashtag #diablo3 or any variation of Diablo3 on Twitter Send out lots of emails so that everyone knows you came to work instead of calling in sick like half your friends list Wear a Diablo III or Blizzard shirt to be “that guy” today Refresh yourself on the story behind Diablo by reading up online. It has been a long time

Women in Games: Amanda McGinnis from Console to Closet

Amanda McGinnis shops around and finds the best outfits and accessories inspired by video game characters. Currently a junior English major in college, Amanda hopes to one-day work for a gaming publication, or become a community manager for a gaming community. In addition to keeping everyone up on gamer fashion Amanda founded Assassionista, a gaming blog. Here is my conversation with Amanda about her Tumblr, Console to Closet. Natasha: So, how did you come up with this idea? Amanda: I actually came up with this idea a few months ago, when I decided that I wanted to learn how to make jewelry. I had this idea that I could make jewelry that looked inspired by games for people who wanted to show their nerd pride, but still look fashionable. After one trip to Michaels, I realized I had no idea how to make jewelry. Fast-forward a few months, I was
