E3 2012 Preview: Of Orcs and Men

If you’ve ever been playing one of the numerous fantasy/action/RPGs and are on you 50th wave of ocrs and goblins you need to kill to make it to the 51st wave, you may have thought to yourself at some point, “Self? Have you ever wondered what it would be like to play as an orc or a goblin instead and wail on some humans for a change?” This is your chance!

Of Orcs and Men takes place in a world at war, with the Empire of Men on the verge of wiping out all orcs and goblins by means of genocide. Entering the game first as an elite orc solider from the Bloodjaws (a legendary legion from the orc armies). He is a veteran warrior who’s been there done that seen it all kind of orc with one last mission to complete: Kill the human emperor to stop the war and genocide. Eventually, you get to team up with a goblin so to further your success in your mission since the goblin can do things and go places that a huge giant orc can’t. The story takes you from filthy alleys to the depths of the Empire of Men itself and your infiltrated heroes will have to face great dangers through it all. These two are the last chance of stopping the world from falling into complete chaos and the extinction of their races.

Basically, you’re team consists of a tank (the orc) and rogue (the goblin). You can move control back and forth between the two or you can combine the efforts of both in your attack (they totally did a Wolverine/Colossus Fastball Special in the demo and I squeed out loud like a 5 year old that just happened upon a farm with miniature horses). The skills of each character are referred to as “stances” (the orc has offense and defense and the goblin has range and melee). If either character falls during battle, the other can revive him during play. The dialogue menu is the standard dial format, and while there is only one ending the dialogue you choose will have an effect on the path your characters take to get to that ending. There will be about 20-30 hours of gameplay and it will be released on PS3/XBox 360/PC in October. For more information, you can check out the official website for the game.
