Women Olympic Hockey Stars join the cast of EA’s NHL 13

Last year a 14 year old girl asked EA to include women in their hockey game. This was because she felt she was underrepresented as a female hockey fan. EA responded by putting in generic female characters. Well it’s great to see that wasn’t just a stunt. EA has committed to bringing Women in NHL13 and even stepped it up a level. In NHL 13 the Women’s Olympic Hockey team stars will be featured as playable characters. Former Team USA superstar Angela Ruggiero will join former Team Canada great Hayley Wickenheiser, both four-time Olympic Ice Hockey medalists, as playable legends in NHL 13. “With the release of NHL 12 we added generic female characters in our Be a Pro mode based on a request from a 14-yr old female fan who emailed our staff because she felt underrepresented as a hockey videogame fan,” said Dean Richards, General Manager, NHL, EA

The Point of No Return: Darksiders

Rage quitting or quitting a game quietly…we’ve all done it at least once. If you haven’t, you’re a liar or you have the patience of a saint. An insane saint, but a saint no less. This irregular column is dedicated to those moments of quitting, what caused us to go over the edge and never look back. It’s all about the point of no return. My most recent victim of rage quitting was Darksiders (the first one). I bought this game when it first released, played the first few chapters, and then was promptly distracted by Bayonetta and then everything else that released in the early months of 2010. (Remember how packed that time was? I wasn’t even into Mass Effect back then and I was still busy!) I didn’t pick up the game again until early July, after I was told I would be representing the Angels at a

New Hearthfire DLC Coming to Skyrim September 4th

Skyrim‘s next round of DLC, called Hearthfire, will release on September 4th for the Xbox 360 only. The pack costs a mere 400 MSP ($5.00) and gives players the ability to build and decorate their own homes. (Eat your heart out, Fable II.) According to Bethesda’s blog, “You can purchase land and build your own home from the ground up – from a simple one-room cottage to a sprawling compound complete with an armory, alchemy laboratory, stable, garden, and more. Use all-new tools like the drafting table and carpenter’s workbench to transform quarried stone, clay, and saw logs into structures and furnishings. Even transform your house into a home by adopting children.” You can even fit your house with fancy display cabinets to store and show off all of your rare items that you have found. Of course, this isn’t the Sims: Skyrim Edition; you have to protect your house

PS Vita 1.8 Update Brings PSone Classics to Vita

PS Vita 1.8 Update is live today and it brings a handful of new features to the handheld, including the ability to turn off touch controls in favor of the D-pad. Yeah, we’re a little confused on that one, too, but hey, whatever makes it shinier for you. The biggest news is that PSone Classics are now available for the Vita and the list is admittedly exciting for those needing a nostalgia fix. The following titles are available to North American users, though while not all of these are listed on the PS Store on your Vita, Reddit users have confirmed many of these titles may be purchased on your PS3 and then manually transferred to your PS Vita. 2 Xtreme Alone in the dark, a new nightmare Arc the Lad Arcade Hits: Shienryu Arcade Hits: Sonic Wings Special Breath of Fire IV Burst Angel Castlevania Chronicles Castlevania: SotN Command

    Wii U Launch Date Outed?

At the GameStop Manager’s Conference in San Antonio this week, a game peripheral company–Performance Designed Products (PDP)–accidentally let slip that the Wii U would launch on November 18, 2012. To be more specific, a representative at the conference allegedly said that their company’s accessories would launch ahead of the Wii U’s November 18th release date. Kotaku contacted PDP for confirmation, but the damage control crew has already been on site, and they gave Kotaku the following statement: “We don’t know exactly what was heard, but we simply do not know that this point. We are launching accessories [for the Wii U], but the date for the accessories doesn’t mean a confirmation on the hardware.” Nintendo has not yet announced their upcoming console’s release date, but a November 18th launch date makes plenty of sense, especially since it falls right before the coveted Black Friday weekend for holiday shopping. Of course,

Free Halo 4 Spec Ops DLC Longer Than Halo 3: ODST

Apparently there has been some speculation that the campaign for Halo 4 is short, due to a recent release of the game’s Achievements. Head of Halo lore Frank O’Connor and Spartan Ops game designer immediately came to the game’s defense on NeoGAF. They explained that even though the game has 8 missions, it doesn’t mean that the game is shorter time-wise than previous games. Plus, don’t forget about the Spartan Ops missions, which–as mentioned back at E3–are co-op missions that cost NOTHING. In fact, Ellis says that the first season of the Spartan Ops missions will be longer than the main campaign of Halo 3: ODST alone. One mission will release a week for Spartan Ops mode for free. Free, people. I can’t emphasize that enough. That’s plenty of Halo action for your buck. The moral of the story is not to judge a game by its Achievements. Now if

    Sleeping Dogs Review

Rating: M Genre: Action Publisher: Square Enix Developer: United Front Games Release Date: August 14, 2012 BUY When it comes to “troubled” development cycles, Sleeping Dogs certainly deserves to fall in this category. Originally announced as a new IP back in 2009, the game was very nearly True Crime: Hong Kong, but delays and budget concerns caused Activision to cancel the title. As a result, it allowed Square-Enix to swoop in, return it to a new franchise, and voila, Sleeping Dogs is as we know it today. At first glance, it would seem easy to write this game off as Grand Theft Auto: Hong Kong, but this impression would be sorely mistaken and might cause you to miss a gem in the start of the fall season. The story of Sleeping Dogs is that the player character, Wei Shen, has returned to Hong Kong to help reign in the rampant criminal element, the Sun on

New Dead Space 3 Screens Show Feeders and Isaac in Action

Need something to give you the creeps on this fine Thursday? How about a string of new Dead Space 3 screenshots from the folks at Visceral? Yeah, we thought so. This latest batch after Gamescom shows Isaac in action, appearing as more of a human character (as opposed to the quiet dude in the suit), as he battles the newest enemy, the feeder. What’s a feeder? You may remember from E3 that much of Isaac’s time will be spent on Tau Volantis, an ice world on which the Church of Unitology has a large presence. The feeders are humans who ate necromorph flesh (Throne of Terra, why??), and have since turned into monsters. While creepy to look at, the screens also seem to confirm that these enemies will be more intelligent than the regular necromorphs, capable of sneaking up on Isaac and using weapons. One of the screens also has a
