Nintendo E3 2014 announcements show innovation

I was looking forward to Nintendo’s E3 Press event because I still don’t own a Wii U and was interested to see how they are going to convince consumers to pick one up. Turns out it’s with innovation and great games.

The new Zelda is set for 2015 and is an open world next gen version in the franchise. Players can get to any area they can see. Many on Twitter were calling it Elder Scrolls Zelda. I’m in.

“Nintendo has always represented a unique source of video game entertainment for the widest range of gamers,” said Reggie Fils-Aime, Nintendo of America’s president and chief operating officer. “We create timeless games with twists and turns that provide hours of enjoyment for fans of all ages, and this year with the introduction of amiibo, we’re pushing the creative envelope forward in compelling new ways.”

Nintendo announced amiibo which places figures of their characters into games. Initially 10 figures will launch with amiibo. Super Smash Bros. for Wii U will be the first game to support amiibo. Other games that will support amiibo include Mario Kart 8, Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker, Mario Party 10 and Yoshi’s Woolly World, with more to come.

Mario Maker looks really interesting. It gives players the ability to create/alter Mario levels. Users can even switch the visual style between a classic 8-bit Super Mario Bros. look and the world of New Super Mario Bros. U in the E3 version. This is slated for 2015 release. I don’t like to create levels, but I would love to play what others come up with. Hopefully there will be a way to share/rate levels.

While there was no new Mario, a new Super Smash Bros, Pokemon, Kirby and new IP should make Nintendo fans really happy in 2015.

I was looking for Nintendo games, and I found your website, Nintendo really knows how to do games, they have "magic" for software, but their hardware is lacking. If they fix their hardware - make the next gen console, that would be awesome!

I'm super pumped for Super Smash Bros. for the WII. I'll probably watch a few game play videos before I take the plunge. But, still can't wait.
