    E3 2012 Preview: THQ Line-up

THQ had a decent lineup of games that they talked about at E3, however only a couple were available for preview to the media: Company of Heroes, Metro: Last Light and Darksiders II. Other games that were talked about but were sadly not available to demo were WWE13, Saints Row the Third: Enter the Dominatrix and South Park: The Stick of Truth. I decided to check out Darksiders and Metro, and I was pleased that I did. Darksiders II: In the demo, you are given a cutscene that describes the history of the world and how the four horsemen came about to combat against the Nephelim. It’s a very nicely animated bit and really sets up the story well. The mission that you go on is to figure out how to free your brother War. Graphics wise the world is beautiful, and damn do I love the horse that you get to

    E3 2012 Preview: Sim City

I love to play simulation games and have control over operations whether it’s been a theme park, airport, household or a city. So when I had the chance to sit in and watch a demo of the new Sim City coming out for PC next Februrary, I jumped on it. Graphics wise the game looks absolutely beautiful. The interface and the way that the game looks overall has received a wonderful face lift. A lot of the upgrades can be attributed to the Glassbox engine which makes the entire world just look amazing, even down to finer details like stop lights changing. But where you can see a lot of the changes is in the design interface for building your city. They said that the design for development was highly inspired from things like Google Maps, and that when they were developing the game they wanted to make sure things looked

    E3 2012 Preview: Star Wars 1313

Before E3, I had heard some chatter about a new title from LucasArts that was named Star Wars 1313. At the time I wasn’t trusting anything from the rumor mill, but after E3 started and more info was coming out, as a Star Wars fan I got pretty excited. It seemed that just about everyone was raving over the game, so when my appointment time came, I entered with high hopes. The room that we were taken into was made to look like the inside of a ship that was descending into Coruscant. It really set the mood for the presentation to come. We got a chance to see behind the scenes a bit into how LucasArts, Industrial Light & Magic, Skywalker Sound and Lucasfilm Animation Ltd. all are working together to make Star Wars 1313 one hell of a game. The insight into how deeply they were going into just using

    E3 THQ Investor Meeting

I got to sit in and listen into the THQ Investor Meeting this morning. I was very interested to see what was going to be said, especially with the closing of their San Diego studio due to the sale of the UFC game rights to EA. Not much was said on the studio closing but there was a lot of talk about how they were pleased with the sale and that “this is a win-win situation for us as a company,” said COO Brian Ferrell. Brian went on to talk about how the sale money can go to their other properties that are in development. The talk then shifted into their upcoming games that they are working on: Darksiders 2, Saints Row the Third: Enter the Dominatrix, WWE13, Company of Heroes, Metro: Last Light and South Park: The Stick of Truth. Some good tidbits from this part included that they

WWE13 box art revealed with pyro on RAW

Being the avid WWE fan that I am, I watch Monday night Raw pretty much every week. However I wasn’t expecting to see the cover art reveal for WWE13, the next game from THQ. Along with the cover art featuring CM Punk (as revealed by himself with some great pyro), we also got a release date of October 30th! WWE12 was easily one of the better WWE games released by THQ lately, so I’m looking forward to hopefully seeing even more improvements and polish. Plus there’s this nifty Attitude Era sticker on the box art which I’m very interested to see what that represents for the game. I’ll also say that the fake cover art featuring John Laurinitis would be one fun bonus for a collector’s edition. *hint hint THQ* Punk has also since sent out a high res version of the cover on his twitter page:   Follow

Diablo III sets sales records in its first week

Even though the launch may have hit several snafus, and servers are still having some trouble, this has not stopped the forces of hell from setting new records. 3.5 million copies of Diablo III were sold on launch day (not including copies given to WoW Annual Pass holders), setting the new all-time record for the fastest selling PC game. After the first week, Diablo III has now sold over 6.3 million copies and that number is still growing. “We’re definitely thrilled that so many people around the world were excited to pick up their copy of Diablo III and jump in the moment it went live,” said Mike Morhaime, CEO and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment. “We also regret that our preparations were not enough to ensure everyone had a seamless experience when they did so. I want to reaffirm our commitment to make sure the millions of Diablo III players out there have a

Diablo III animated short “Wrath” released

I love seeing what game developers and publishers do to help promote their upcoming games, and I think Blizzard has done another such thing with this Diablo III animated short. Entitled “Diablo III: Wrath” it was released yesterday on YouTube, the short was a collaboration between Blizzard, Aeon Flux creator Peter Chung and animation studio Titmouse who is famous for their series Metalocalypse. The names alone told me that this was going to be a fantastic thing, and after watching it I’m now wanting this to be a full on animated series. There’s plenty of lore to pull from, so why not? I can only hope and dream of such a thing to grace my TV on [adult swim]. You can watch Diablo III: Wrath below: Follow

Bioshock Infinite pushed back to 2013

In a letter written to the community, Irrational Games co-founder Ken Levine has stated that they will be moving the release of Bioshock Infinite to Februrary 26, 2013. And it’s not just the release date that has changed. Irrational Games will not be showing anything for Bioshock Infinite at E3 or at Gamescom. “That way, the next time you see our game, it will be essentially the product we intend to put in the box. Preparing for these events takes time away from development, time we’re going to use instead to get the best version of Infinite into your hands in February,” says Ken. Now while I am a bit sad that I won’t get my hands on the game this year, I’m also a bit happy that they are taking the time to make sure that the final product they put out is the best it can be and will make

    Hands on with Tera

I had the pleasure of playing a five man encounter in Tera back at Pax prime last year. it was a moment that made me really look at the game and get excited over it. well this year I again got to meet with the awesome team from En Masse to check out more from Tera. This time around there was a new cinematic and some behind the scenes footage from the voice recording with Michael Hogan, from Battlestar Galactica. With such a distinctive voice it’s no surprise that En Masse would want to utilize his talents in the game. and let me tell you, it does add to the feel of the trailer. Follow
