The Novo Geek store opens for business
Being a geek as you get older has it’s benefits. One of those is having the disposable income to spend on things that make you happy. The other is being able to celebrate your geeky hobbies in public ways at work. A new company has launched to help provide you with a variety of geeky products. The Novo Geek just opened online this week. The store already has items for Star Trek and Battlestar Galatica fans. Even Dexter fans can purchase a “thumb” drive inspired by Cherry’s “donation” to the infamous ice block at the hands of the Ice Truck Killer. “We’re geeks, and we’re proud of it – and our mission is to make every day better for all geek-kind,” said Joe Salcedo, founder and CEO of Anovos Productions LLC, whose staggeringly detailed and precise Star Trek and Battlestar Galactica replica uniforms have become enormously popular with fans around

Star Wars Old Republic loses 400,000 subscribers
Reuters has released a report that Star Wars: The Old Republic has recently lost 400,000 subscribers in the fourth quarter. Electronic Arts is hoping to boost subscriber base with the release of two expansion packs which expands the content for the players. This is on the heel of an investment call with shareholders that EA held the other day. On that call there was more positive news to share. Mass Effect 3 exceeds $200 million at retail. The success of strong titles like Mass Effect 3, FIFA Street 4, SSX and Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning all helped to drive EA to $1.2 billion of digital revenue. “We are proud to report a strong quarter and a fiscal year highlighted with $1.2 billion of digital revenue,” said Chief Executive Officer John Riccitiello. “In the coming year, we break away from the pack, with a very different profile than the traditional game

Demo for Fan-Made My Little Pony Investigations has been released
Randomly surfing the net (instead of getting work done), I came across My Little Pony Investigations. Ironically it became something I could write about for GamingAngels! My Little Pony Investigations is a fan created game featuring the characters from My Little Pony Friendship is Magic. The gameplay is much like a Phoenix Wright game where gamers play as Twilight Sparkle who is attempting to solve a crime that took place in Equestria. In the game, Twilight can press for more information or present evidence to help make an accusation. It’s pretty amazing that this is a fan made project. The quality is pretty high for it being a labor of love. Much higher than I expected. The full version of the game will be released for any OS that supports JAVA and will be released for free. That’s right, they just want you to enjoy and have fun. The graphics

Avengers big weekend
After having a huge international opening, Marvel’s The Avengers had a big opening weekend domestically as well. Walt Disney Studios announced that The Avengers posted an estimated $200.3 million just for May 4-6. For the first 12 days of release, The Avengers have made an estimated $641.8 million. Which of course breaks many opening weekend records. I can’t recommend that you see the Avengers for yourself enough. The cast plays incredibly well together and with Joss Whedon’s writing and directing skills, the entire movie is a treat. Just make sure not to drink a coke during the movie. I think the Avengers clocks at 2 hours and 40 minutes. Which becomes an insanely long time when you have to pee. I saw the movie once with others from work. But on Sunday I saw the Avengers again in full Real 3D glory and in D-Box seats. What are D-Box seats?

Interview: Whitney Wade (God of War Senior Producer)
On Monday, we posted about God of War Ascension. We were invited to the reveal of God of War Ascension’s multiplayer mode. It must have been funny to watch the room full of press trying to figure out what the team was showing us throughout the demo. After the demo we sat with Sr. Producer Whitney Wade to talk about God of War Ascension and what this new adventure means to the team. GamingAngels: Hi Whitney. Describe to us what it’s been like to return to the God of War series. Whitney: It’s exciting times! We love making God of War and so we’re happy to do it. The franchise is so strong, I think that in focus testing we did, fans want more. So who are we to deny the fans? The major reveal is the multiplayer concept. How did that idea come about?
