    E3 2012 Preview: Lego City Undercover

    For the first time in LEGO gaming history, the play sets come to life instead of an already established property with LEGO City: Undercover, which is an exclusive for the Wii U console. Playing as Chase McCain (an undercover detective), players move from mission to mission using disguises all in an attempt to stop the diabolical Rex Fury and put an end to his crime wave for good. Players will be able to not only run through the city, but drive and fly, all while using the Wii U pad as a high tech police gadget. The Wii U pad can scan for hidden clues and criminals, get mission updates and place waypoints on an overhead city map that will display McCain’s position in real time.     E3 2012 Preview: Pikmin 3

    The Pikmin are back in Pikmin 3, and this time players get to use the Wii U pad for an even more in depth experience. Players will still be taking control of the ant-like Pikmin to help the survive their world, which is packed with treasures and enemies alike. With the ability to aim at objects directly, players have better control over their tiny squads in a number of different ways. The Wii U pad gives players a greater ability to consider different strategies (although, using the Wii U is not mandatory for this game). The pad is an overhead map and radar to track the Pikmin actions in real time. Players also have the ability to switch between areas with the slide of a finger, giving them greater flexibility as a commander of multiple groups of Pikmin.     E3 2012 Preview: Rayman Legends

    Rayman: Legends is a game that makes full use of the new Wii U controller and it’s the one Wii U game I demoed that I actually felt utilized the pad well in conjunction with the Wii Remotes. The game makes use of the touch-based gameplay and gyroscope technology of the Wii U pad that made the experience more than my staring at a handheld device while the second player focuses solely on the TV. Even with my being super uncoordinated as far as the gyroscope went, this game was entertaining to both succeed and die in. The graphics were very bright and detailed as Rayman, Globox and the Teensies galavanted around the both the TV and Wii U pad screens.     E3 2012 Preview: THQ Line-up

    THQ had a decent lineup of games that they talked about at E3, however only a couple were available for preview to the media: Company of Heroes, Metro: Last Light and Darksiders II. Other games that were talked about but were sadly not available to demo were WWE13, Saints Row the Third: Enter the Dominatrix and South Park: The Stick of Truth. I decided to check out Darksiders and Metro, and I was pleased that I did. Darksiders II: In the demo, you are given a cutscene that describes the history of the world and how the four horsemen came about to combat against the Nephelim. It’s a very nicely animated bit and really sets up the story well. The mission that you go on is to figure out how to free your brother War.     E3 Giveaway Borderlands 2 Loot!

    At E3 this year, Keri and I got a quick hands on with Borderlands 2. The original Borderlands is a personal favorite for myself and my husband. We played the game together until we had exhausted everything in the game. We initially covered Borderlands 2 about a year ago at PAX Prime. Our E3 meeting was my personal first hands on with the game. We walked into a room with demo stations setup and very little else explained. The attitude was probably…the game will speak for itself. To start, we had 20 skill points to add to our skill trees. The menu system has been vastly improved. I reserve full judgement until I’m seen it in action in split screen which is how the hubby and I will play. But for the single player experience, it’s definitely an improvement.     E3 Preview: NBA Baller Beats & Zumba Fitness Core

    NBA Baller Beats is a brand new title for Majesco. The package will come with an official Spalding basketball and the game. NBA Baller Beats works with the Kinect and at E3, it seemed to be able to track the player very well. Players first choose a team they want to be on. Then they can pick an official court to play on. The difficulty settings are rookie,pro and baller. I believe their might be a trickster mode as well. You aren’t going to just pretend to play basketball though. This is a pure exercise in dribbling and ball handling skills. Game moves are put to over 30 licensed tracks. A ball means just to dribble, and a move like pump fake will show up on the right hand side to show that the move is coming up. You’ll be doing crossovers, pump fakes, flow dribble and more moves.     E3 Hands On: Skylanders Giants

    We didn’t have an Activision appointment at E3 2012, but as I was walking by, I decided to see if I can get some hands on time with Skylanders Giants. We previously had Jackson review Skylanders and from what I know, Skylanders is a HUGE hit with kids (and probably some adults too). Skylanders is a game where physical toys come to life in the game. There is a portal that you place your game character on and that instantly allows the player to play as that character. I learned at E3, that all characters, even the new ones, remember what level they are. So if you take your characters to a friend’s house, that little figure will know what level it’s at and you can play right away with it.     E3 Review – Dust: An Elysian Tail

    Along the Microsoft E3 booth were a variety of Summer of Arcade titles out for people to try. I immediately was drawn to Dust: An Elysian Tail. I hadn’t heard of this title previously and a quick google search shows me that it is the brainchild of Humble Hearts Studios. Dust: An Elysian Tail was previously a Dream.Build.Play winner in 2009. You play as Dust who is a fox I think. The website says that Dust is trying to liberate an oppressed village, and rediscover his past. He is accompanied by Fidget, his sidekick who actually does help in combat. In the demo, I got a look at the very funny dialog that occurs between Dust and Fidget. Hopefully that is a sign of something that carries throughout the game. The 2D action games has beautiful graphics. I saw mentioned that this game was hand painted by the creator. Which

    If you’ve ever been playing one of the numerous fantasy/action/RPGs and are on you 50th wave of ocrs and goblins you need to kill to make it to the 51st wave, you may have thought to yourself at some point, “Self? Have you ever wondered what it would be like to play as an orc or a goblin instead and wail on some humans for a change?” This is your chance!     E3 2012 Preview: Sim City

    I love to play simulation games and have control over operations whether it’s been a theme park, airport, household or a city. So when I had the chance to sit in and watch a demo of the new Sim City coming out for PC next Februrary, I jumped on it. Graphics wise the game looks absolutely beautiful. The interface and the way that the game looks overall has received a wonderful face lift. A lot of the upgrades can be attributed to the Glassbox engine which makes the entire world just look amazing, even down to finer details like stop lights changing. But where you can see a lot of the changes is in the design interface for building your city. They said that the design for development was highly inspired from things like Google Maps, and that when they were developing the game they wanted to make sure things looked
