E3 2012 Preview: Elder Scrolls Online

With Skyrim, Bethesda came pretty close to creating an Elder Scrolls game that never truly ends, and with Elder Scrolls Online, they will create just that. Elder Scrolls Online (ESO) takes place primarily in the province of Cyrodil on Tamriel, where three factions are vehemently fighting for control of the realm: the Daggerfell Covenant, the Ebonheart Pact, and the Aldmeri Dominion. In order to do so, players of their respective factions must manage the rather prolific undead situation they have rampaging across the land. Players can either put an end to the undead or try to rein them under their control. In the end, it all comes down to players choosing how they want to save the world. While players can certainly play ESO alone, the game greatly rewards those who put in a collaborative effort. This is not to say that you must have a buddy system or be part of a

    E3 THQ Investor Meeting

I got to sit in and listen into the THQ Investor Meeting this morning. I was very interested to see what was going to be said, especially with the closing of their San Diego studio due to the sale of the UFC game rights to EA. Not much was said on the studio closing but there was a lot of talk about how they were pleased with the sale and that “this is a win-win situation for us as a company,” said COO Brian Ferrell. Brian went on to talk about how the sale money can go to their other properties that are in development. The talk then shifted into their upcoming games that they are working on: Darksiders 2, Saints Row the Third: Enter the Dominatrix, WWE13, Company of Heroes, Metro: Last Light and South Park: The Stick of Truth. Some good tidbits from this part included that they

E3 Press Conferences in pictures Day 2

Remember how I said that we didn’t have any pictures in our Press Conference write ups? Well here they are in all their Flickr glory. Today’s slideshow is completely from the Nintendo E3 2012 Press Event at Nokia Live. I particularly like the pictures of Zombie Reggie. What did you think of the Conference today? Follow

E3 Press Conferences in Images Day 1

Yesterday we got out the information but it lacked pictures. That’s because while I was typing, Keri was taking awesome pictures with my Cannon 5D Mark II. We decided to post all the pictures from Day 1 together for your enjoyment. That means pictures from Microsoft, EA, Ubisoft, and Sony press conferences. What did you think of the conferences? Any clear winner? At Microsoft, visually we enjoyed their stage. In the pictures take a look at the side panels, which really integrated well with the content. At EA, we were pretty high up and there may even be a camera in some of the shots. Their live stream had a video camera moving constantly in our view. At Sony we had decent seats and they also had great presentation with their games. I believe there is a God of War Ascension shot that is awesome. Hope you enjoy these pictures. We’ll

    Nintendo E3 2012 Press Conference

Trina, Summer, and I sat ready and waiting for the conference to start. We had no time for a Starbuck’s run beforehand, which might kill me, but sometimes you have to make the sacrifice for the greater good of E3. I had very few hopes for this conference after my extreme disappointment last year, and sadly, my hopes were never lifted. I felt more “meh” about the Nintendo presser than I did Ubisoft. Shigeru Miyamoto kicked the show off with a bang as he always does with the announcement of Pikmin 3 for the Wii U. Pikmin 3 features a new Rock Pikmin, that will break down objects more readily, and several new controls implemented just for the Wii GamePad and the motion control capabilities. With the Wii controls, players can aim, throw, and target enemies or the environment. The GamePad can be used for map tracking while you play, and since

    Ubisoft E3 2012 Press Conference

Ubisoft has kind of struggled for appealing hosts of their shows over the last few years, especially after Mr. Caffeine fell quite flat last year. This year they had actress Aisha Tyler at the helm with YouTuber Toby “Tobuscus” Turner running the backstage questions and occasional interruptions. The chemistry was not good to say the least, and I’m trying to be as nice as possible while saying so. At least the press conference started with an absolute bang, with teams of girls showing off Just Dance 4 along with Flo Rida. They should have left Flo Rida out there the whole conference. It would have been far more entertaining, especially with that ridiculous mic he had. The conference covered both Far Cry 3 and Splinter Cell: Blacklist, but it didn’t show anything else that wasn’t already covered from the Microsoft and Sony press conferences. However, they did say that Blacklist

    Sony E3 2012 Press Conference

We are sitting in a very hot stadium waiting for the Sony E3 conference to start. There are about six Playstation employees playing games on the large screen. One is playing something with Playstation Move. You can really see that pink ball glow even from the cheap seats. They may be playing games that are currently out. We are getting started. The various screens are showing images of games and people playing them. You’ll see images of the stage later, but it’s quite pretty visually. Jack is doing the intro. Begin by paying tribute to the gamers, “Never Stop Playing”. He introduces Kaz Hirai to the crowd. First title is a brand new IP by the company that did Heavy Rain, Quantic Dream. David Cage comes to the stage to talk about Beyond Two Souls for the Playstation 3. Jodie Holmes is a character in the game that has a

    EA E3 2012 Press Conference

John started the show with stating that we’ll see 10 developers showing 10 great games. Going to show how games have evolved from game you buy to what you end up playing. Start with Dead Space 3 trailer. Visceral Games is on stage to talk about Dead Space 3 that will have new characters and drop in/drop out co-op. They are featuring a live co-op demo. Have to admit, I’m scared that I will jump in my seat while watching them play. I’m a huge scaredy cat when it comes to Dead Space franchise. Dead Space 3 is coming February 2013. Madden NFL 13 trailer with a Raven’s star that I don’t know the name of. Brand new infinity engine to deliver run-time physics creating hits and falls that look authentic. Players physical attributes are a part of the game more than before. Connected Careers mode has social integration. Michael

    Microsoft E3 Press Conference

Keri and I sat down at the Microsoft Press Conference with the green stage shining brightly in front of us. There are quite a few Kinects laid out which may indicate that the press conference will be Kinect heavy. We’re ready to get this show on the road. Here we go…. trailer starts the show. Starting with Halo 4 trailer. The trailer is beautiful, we’ll have to post it here later. No real cheers for Master Chief. Is this the E3 audience being more professional? They are showcasing actual gameplay. It’s a pretty long demo, we’ll have to see if we can get Keri on it on the show floor. Release date is 11-6-12. Don Mattrick is on stage to make the intros to the press conference. Hi Xbox live viewers! Looks like today is only about Xbox 360 and not the new console. This holiday they are going to
