Someone has built a better mousepad

I’ve never looked at my mousepad and wished I had a better one, but the people at SteelSeries have announced the release of SteelSeries SX, a new professional gaming mousepad. This mousepad is made of fiber polished aluminum featuring an anodized oxide surface treatment. Basically what this does is provide a smooth gliding sensation. “With the SteelSeries SX we tried to reach new limits and I can honestly say we reached them. It was our goal to make a pad that would offer smoothness and be very durable and not lose it over time. We knew from experience that aluminum was a perfect material to achieve this goal.” says Jonas ‘Johnny R’ Bollack, SteelSeries Development Team. “Several months, and after countless tests by professional gamers, later we can finally present the result. An anodized aluminum surface that does the job perfectly and both we and our testers agreed: This is

Apple iPhone going on sale June 29

So Apple just missed by birthday by a couple of weeks, but that doesn’t make the iPhone any less sexier. I remember watching the Apple keynote when this was announced, and later proclaiming how it will be mine. (Take away creepy precious talk, but along the same lines). On June 29, the iPhone will be launching in the US. Each phone will cost $500 or $600 depending on the amount of memory included. The iPhones features, for those that don’t get what the big deal is, are the large touchscreen, the ability to watch video, play music and display photos. I think this might be the first phone I’ll own that I’ll actually like. Yes, it will cost as much as my PS3 which hurts, but it may be worth it. I advise waiting a bit after the 29th to read reviews and see if there are any firmware problems

    Japanese Robot displays expressions

The newest Japanese humanoid robot actually expresses emotions. When he hears the word “bomb” he frowns, and he smiles when he hears the word “sushi”. There are up to 36 different facial expressions that stem from English words. I think this is the funniest part, when the robot hears the word “president” it associates “Bush”, “War”, and “Iraq” and you get a facial expression that is a mix of fear and disgust. Even a robot can see through Bush. I know that Japan is addicted to creating androids or figuring out AI for robots, but is America working on robots at all?

    Intel creating low-cost laptop

Intel has announced that it’s teaming up with Asustek Computer Inc to create a notebook pc that would cost as little as $200. The notebooks will be aimed for use in developing countries. The low-end notebook might not be considered fashionable in it’s green and white plastic look. The laptops also will have a hand crank that can be used in areas where there is little power. It’s great to see companies work together to try and create a low-cost solution for developing countries.

USB drives that looks like your favorite childhood toy

This USB key looks like it’s in a Lego, but the company creating these have no connection with the Lego company at all. The Australian company is calling these “Zip Zip”, and they come in a standard 1GB and are available in blue, yellow, green, red, white and black. If you have kids, I would keep this far away because your USB drive could end up lost in the bucket of Legos. This will set you back about $48. You can buy it here: http://www.zipzip.net.au/page/page/4519110.htm

    Hello Kitty Body Fat Meter

I am in love with all things Hello Kitty. I have a rather large collection myself, and hope to start reviewing some of the Hello Kitty gadgets that are available. I have a Hello Kitty scale that does not measure in pounds (because it’s Japanese), but this takes it one step further. You can now get a calculation of your body fat. The Hello Kitty Body Fat Meter will be available June 1st for 6,000 Yen or $60 about. You can probably find one on Yahoo Japan Auctions.
