LEGO Lord of the Rings Review
Rating: Everyone 10+ Genre: Action-Adventure Publisher: Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment Developer: TT Games Release Date: November 13, 2012 BUY The LEGO franchise has been turning pop culture sensations into adorable blocky video game versions for years, creating games accessible for both kids and adults alike. The newest LEGO release, LEGO Lord of the Rings, is another successful addition to the already expansive series, and is exactly what you hope for from a LEGO game. As a Lord of the Rings fan, I was anxious to see how the game would approach the series, and whether or not it would live up to my high expectations. I was not let down. The game itself is true to what has come before it in LEGO games. The storyline of each movie is separated into a story level, which is adapted to fit the LEGO world. I love how the game is able to allow you to

Borderlands 2 Review
Rating: M Genre: First Person Shooter/ Action Role Playing Publisher: 2K Games Developer: Gearbox Studios Release Date: September 18, 2012 BUY Borderlands 2 is the sequel to the incredibly popular Borderlands, a game that follows Vault hunters on an epic quest to discover a mysterious alien vault on the planet Pandora before Commandant Steele, the Crimson Lance, and the Atlas Corporation can acquire it for themselves. It turns out that the Vault is actually a prison for a creature called the Destroyer, which does exactly that to the bad guys above before being defeated by the Vault hunters. The second installment, Borderlands 2, begins 5 years later: the Hyperion Corporation is now in charge, and its leader, Handsome Jack, has sent Vault hunters into hiding and claimed victory over the Destroyer for himself. The game begins with four new Vault Hunters to choose from, each with their own special ability: the duel-wielding Salvador,

Review – Spec Ops: The Line
Rating: M Genre: Shooter Publisher: 2K Games Developer: Yager Release Date: June 26, 2012 BUY Upon first glance, Spec Ops: The Line looks like any other military shooter. Who cares that you have a three-man team, it takes place in the desert, and it’s in third-person perspective instead of the usual first-person. It still doesn’t look like it would offer anything different from any other military shooter. It probably has a half-assed plot and then completely focuses on the multiplayer. Right? Oh, so wrong. In fact, if there’s one thing Spec Ops: The Line does have, it’s an incredible (and harrowing) story. But don’t worry; Spec Ops has more great things than just its tale. Spec Ops: The Line tells the story of Delta Force, three soldiers led by Captain Walker on a mission to find out what happened to the 33rd Division in Dubai. The 33rd–famously known as the

Review: The Walking Dead (Episode 1: A New Day)
Rating: M (for Mature) Genre: Action, Adventure, RPG Publisher: Telltale Games Developer: Telltale Games Release Date: April 25th, 2012 BUY The Walking Dead. If you’ve read the Graphic Novels or watched the television show, I’m sure you have a pretty good idea what you might be in for. Even still, the name gives a lot away. Zombies. This is a game about zombies. But what you might not know that those of us more familiar with the comic or the show are familiar with already, is that it’s also a game about choices. Hard choices. These are the quick on your feet, nail-biting, choose it or lose it sort of moments that kind of define the zombie genre and that The Walking Dead is already known for. (That and if anyone ever asks where Carl is? He’s not in the house. Most especially if he’s been told to stay there.)

Demo for Fan-Made My Little Pony Investigations has been released
Randomly surfing the net (instead of getting work done), I came across My Little Pony Investigations. Ironically it became something I could write about for GamingAngels! My Little Pony Investigations is a fan created game featuring the characters from My Little Pony Friendship is Magic. The gameplay is much like a Phoenix Wright game where gamers play as Twilight Sparkle who is attempting to solve a crime that took place in Equestria. In the game, Twilight can press for more information or present evidence to help make an accusation. It’s pretty amazing that this is a fan made project. The quality is pretty high for it being a labor of love. Much higher than I expected. The full version of the game will be released for any OS that supports JAVA and will be released for free. That’s right, they just want you to enjoy and have fun. The graphics

Name Our Podcast, Please! (Mass Effect 3 Discussion Special)
Elizabeth, Keri, Stephanie and Summer talk about their Mass Effect 3 experiences. What kind of Shepard did we play, who we “did” and what ending we got (and how well we liked them). We also touch briefly on the “Take Mass Effect Back” and the Child’s Play charity debacle. (We started having some Skype issues about halfway into the discussion, so apologies for the quality and extra noises.)

Review – Earth Defense Force: Insect Armageddon
Rated: T for Teen Genre: Third-person shooter Publisher: D3 Publisher Developer: Vicious Cycle Software Release Date: July 5, 2011 RENT The sequel to Earth Defense Force 2017, Earth Defense Force: Insect Armageddon takes place on an Earth that is once again devastated and infested by giant alien insects. Naturally, only Earth Defense Force can stop them. it’s up to you and your team, Strike Force Lightning, to defend the city of New Detroit against the otherwordly invasion by deestroying the hordes any way you can (even if that means using a building to crush them into an alien insect version of crunchy peanut butter). I’ll be honest: I’ve never even heard of the Earth Defense Force series of games so I didn’t have any expectations when I loaded this up on my Steam account. The game is a third-person shooter, and you can play through a Campaign, Survival or Co-op mode, each consisting of your generic

Guest Review – Star Wars: The Old Republic (Beta)
After finishing my second beta weekend, and with the NDA lifted, I wanted to splurge about how much I love the new Star Wars: The Old Republic – and how I don’t see it as an MMO. And that’s what’s getting me to play it (I’m not much of an MMO player). A Bioware game through and through, there are a lot of things that I love and that have got me excited for the release this December. A warning for possible spoilers, though I’ve done my best to avoid anything major. As of now, I’ve levelled two different classes into their mid 20s, and my partner has played two as well – Sith Inquisitor and Smuggler for me, and Sith Warrior and Republic Trooper for him. We played on PvE servers for the most recent beta, and got to see both the Imperials and rebel scu – I mean,

Review – PayDay: The Heist
Rating: M (Mature 17+: Intense Violence) Genre: Shooter Publisher: Sony Online Entertainment Developer: Overkill Software Release Date: October 18, 2011 TRY PayDay: The Heist has been highly anticipated since its announcement, as it allows for co-operative shooter gameplay without the zombies AND it’s on the PlayStation 3. As you can probably gather from the title art to the left, PayDay is all about committing heinous robberies and stealing ginormous sums of cash. A couple of missions vary from this boilerplate, but the overall gameplay is about the same. You can do so either alone with three AI bots or with friends, much like Left 4 Dead. Also like Left 4 Dead, it’s really not that fun to play alone or even with strangers over the PSN. You need friends to go a-heisting. PayDay pits you in some crazy plot devices for your acts of thievery, many of which seem like they’d be better suited in an episode of
