LEGO Lord of the Rings Review

Rating: Everyone 10+ Genre: Action-Adventure Publisher: Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment Developer: TT Games Release Date: November 13, 2012 BUY   The LEGO franchise has been turning pop culture sensations into adorable blocky video game versions for years, creating games accessible for both kids and adults alike. The newest LEGO release, LEGO Lord of the Rings, is another successful addition to the already expansive series, and is exactly what you hope for from a LEGO game. As a Lord of the Rings fan, I was anxious to see how the game would approach the series, and whether or not it would live up to my high expectations. I was not let down. The game itself is true to what has come before it in LEGO games. The storyline of each movie is separated into a story level, which is adapted to fit the LEGO world. I love how the game is able to allow you to

    Borderlands 2 Review

Rating: M Genre: First Person Shooter/ Action Role Playing Publisher: 2K Games Developer: Gearbox Studios Release Date: September 18, 2012 BUY Borderlands 2 is the sequel to the incredibly popular Borderlands, a game that follows Vault hunters on an epic quest to discover a mysterious alien vault on the planet Pandora before Commandant Steele, the Crimson Lance, and the Atlas Corporation can acquire it for themselves. It turns out that the Vault is actually a prison for a creature called the Destroyer, which does exactly that to the bad guys above before being defeated by the Vault hunters. The second installment, Borderlands 2, begins 5 years later: the Hyperion Corporation is now in charge, and its leader, Handsome Jack, has sent Vault hunters into hiding and claimed victory over the Destroyer for himself. SDCC 2012 Hands-On Preview: Hybrid

5th Cell is known for breaking the typical mold in gaming, such as the hit Scribblenauts series on the DS and iOS. They’ve chosen to try to break the mold of yet another genre in gaming; this time, it’s the third-person shooter. Upon first glance, however, Hybrid looks like any other third-person shooter that relies on cover for strategic gameplay. The difference lies within the jetpacks. Ah yes, how jetpacks seem to make everything better. At the very least, they open up your strategy from the typical pop-up-and-shoot. Gameplay is based solely on online multiplayer. You can play in random matches like you would in other multiplayer games, but there is also a large multiplayer campaign. Players pick sides between the Variants and the Paladins as they battle all over the Earth to try to seize possession of dark matter, the most coveted power source. Whichever side controls the dark

Review – Spec Ops: The Line

Rating: M Genre: Shooter Publisher: 2K Games Developer: Yager Release Date: June 26, 2012 BUY Upon first glance, Spec Ops: The Line looks like any other military shooter. Who cares that you have a three-man team, it takes place in the desert, and it’s in third-person perspective instead of the usual first-person. It still doesn’t look like it would offer anything different from any other military shooter. It probably has a half-assed plot and then completely focuses on the multiplayer. Right? Oh, so wrong. In fact, if there’s one thing Spec Ops: The Line does have, it’s an incredible (and harrowing) story. But don’t worry; Spec Ops has more great things than just its tale. Spec Ops: The Line tells the story of Delta Force, three soldiers led by Captain Walker on a mission to find out what happened to the 33rd Division in Dubai. The 33rd–famously known as the

Review: The Walking Dead (Episode 1: A New Day)

Rating: M (for Mature) Genre: Action, Adventure, RPG Publisher: Telltale Games Developer:  Telltale Games Release Date: April 25th, 2012 BUY The Walking Dead.  If you’ve read the Graphic Novels or watched the television show, I’m sure you have a pretty good idea what you might be in for.  Even still, the name gives a lot away.  Zombies. This is a game about zombies.  But what you might not know that those of us more familiar with the comic or the show are familiar with already, is that it’s also a game about choices.  Hard choices.  These are the quick on your feet, nail-biting, choose it or lose it sort of moments that kind of define the zombie genre and that The Walking Dead is already known for. (That and if anyone ever asks where Carl is? He’s not in the house.  Most especially if he’s been told to stay there.)

God of War Ascension multiplayer announcement

Last week we were invited to attend a screening by Sony where they revealed more details about God of War Ascension. The game has a single player story mode, but will include for the first time….multiplayer. The story itself takes place as a prequel. Finding out what made Kratos who he was. A main goal that the Sony team is trying to achieve is that they are working to push the Playstation 3 to it’s limits. Adding to the game, they have created a new combat and soul system where players can upgrade their skills and weapons.

    Review: Binary Domain

Rating: M Genre: Shooter Publisher: SEGA Developer: Criware Release Date: February 28, 2012 BUY Not many people have heard of Binary Domain. This third-person shooter from SEGA completely slipped under the radar for March. With titles like Mass Effect 3 and Syndicate, it’s easy to see why, but it’s a downright SHAME. I had no idea what to expect whenI received Binary Domain, and I have to say it was the most pleasant surprise this year so far. Binary Domain has everything I would want in a shooter: fun gameplay, explosions, funny dialogue, great story, and a bit of romance. If you’re a fan of these things, do yourself a favor and stop reading this review to go pick up a copy. You need more than that? Well, okay. Binary Domain is the tale of Dan Marshall, a Spec Ops member of the International Robotics Technology Association (IRTA), as he joins with a Rust Crew of various nationalities to investigate

Name Our Podcast, Please! (Mass Effect 3 Discussion Special)

Elizabeth, Keri, Stephanie and Summer talk about their Mass Effect 3 experiences. What kind of Shepard did we play, who we “did” and what ending we got (and how well we liked them). We also touch briefly on the “Take Mass Effect Back” and the Child’s Play charity debacle. (We started having some Skype issues about halfway into the discussion, so apologies for the quality and extra noises.)

Preview: Hands on with Darksiders II

THQ invited GamingAngels and others to a press event in San Francisco earlier this week to check out Darksiders II. The title is a sequel for Vigil Games to the well received Darksiders. As part of the community event we were given time to interview Joe Joe Madureira, David Adams and Ryan over some yummy food and drinks. We got to know each other as communities and also received some hands-on time with the game. The preview was over too quickly and now I have to wait until June 26th to see how Darksiders II turns out. When the game is released there will also be an official Art Book from UDON publishing as well as Darksiders II: The Abomination Vault novel from Random House. Vigil Games created Darksiders initially with 6 people in a garage. I remember meeting the team at San Diego Comic Con and one could pick
