Review – Saints Row: The Third

Rating: M (Mature 17+) Genre: Action-Adventure Publisher: THQ Developer: Volition, Inc. Release Date: November 15, 2011 BUY I will first admit that I have not played the previous Saints Row games. I’ve heard good things, but they just never appealed to me. That is until I saw promos for Saints Row The Third. The game itself just looked so over the top and fun because it wasn’t taking itself seriously. Plus their promo stunt at E3 with the carwash was pretty funny. So not long after it was released my boyfriend and I picked up the game and I’ve been having a blast! To start, character creation is over the top. It was honestly hard to decide if I wanted to first play through as a guy or a girl. I did wind up choosing to play as a girl, and decided to re-create Christina Hendricks to the best of

Review – Gears of War 3: RAAM’s Shadow (DLC)

Finally, a DLC for a shooter game that isn’t a map pack. I’m talking about RAAM’s Shadow, the first campaign DLC for the Gears of War franchise, and hopefully not the last. As the name hints at the boss of the first game, this DLC is a prequel from before the first game, and even includes a couple of characters who did not survive the first two games–Kim and Tai. As Marcus was most likely still in the Slab during this time frame, RAAM’s Shadow instead focuses on Kim and Tai’s original squadron, Zeta, which at one time included Val and Barrick. Barrick is an uglier, angrier version of Marcus, and Val is a hybrid of Anya and Sam. Even though none of these squad members have as much depth as the usual Delta team, it’s a bit refreshing to play as completely different characters. What’s even more refreshing is the

Review – Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary

Rating: M (Mature 17+: Intense Violence) Genre: Shooter Publisher: Microsoft Developer: 343 Industries/Saber Interactive, Inc./Certain Affinity, Inc. Release Date: November 15, 2011 BUY Before I get into my Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary review, I have a confession to make first. I have never played a Halo game before I picked up this one. Some may say this makes me the best reviewer for the game, as I have no nostalgia to fall back on. Some may say that this makes me the worst reviewer for the same reason. In terms of seeing how well Halo has withstood the test of ten years time, I’m really the best person for this job. But, for better or for worse, this is what you get. And before you start flinging the tomatoes, please read the following sentence first: despite some of the outdated mechanics and the severely outdated level design, I relished my

UFC is live on the Xbox Dashboard

I was pretty bummed when my Xbox Dashboard updated and the UFC tab had the old fight on it. Then reports came out that UFC application would not be updated until December 20th in time for the UFC 141. Even UFC posted about it! This may be only available to certain users, but I was able to get the UFC application working and found that it’s updated with all the latest fight information! Amazing videos about all the fighters in UFC 140. You can make your picks as well as see who your friends picked to win. Basically it’s my husband and I fighting to see if Mir or Nog is going to win this Saturday. Voting is easy and you get a plethora of information on the fighters. Not only the Tale of the Tape that shows all the measurements/age/history of the fighter, but also the last three fights

    Xbox 360 Holiday Guide

The Xbox 360 is well known for its mature games, particularly in the shooter arena, and while these titles are still very prevalent, the Gaming Angels would like to point out a couple of the E and T games that are suitable for anyone on your holiday shopping list. Of course, our favorite M-rated games are highly recommended as well for your adult gamers. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim (M) - I am a fanatic about games that have amazing story combined with great gameplay. I was allowed to get a sneak peek at Elder Scrolls: Skyrim and I honestly was trying to figure out a way to steal their dev kit so I can have more time with the game. Skyrim is robust and allows you to explore. In three hours that I played, it took me about an hour before I even got a quest, but I discovered

Our friend Jackson reviews Skylanders: Spyro’s Adventure

Activision sent us Skylanders: Spyro’s Adventure to review. It was sitting in the box on my table when Jackson and his brother came over for a visit. They spotted the unopened box and ran for it. According to them, I was the luckiest girl on earth because I had Skylanders: Spyro’s Adventure. I sat on the couch with Jackson as he proceeded to walk me through the game, the figures and why it was so cool. He was so excited and obviously knew alot about the game already, that I couldn’t resist. I asked Jackson to play and review Skylanders: Spyro’s Adventure for us. Below are his thoughts: Today we are reviewing “Skylanders: Spyro’s Adventure! So far, here are the ratings! Graphics: 9/10 The moving graphic is at it’s best, but the talking animation is sometimes off sync. This is still one of the best definition non-FPS games i’ve ever

    Review: Battlefield 3

Rating: M (Mature 17+: Intense Violence) Genre: Shooter Publisher: EA Developer: EA DICE Release Date: October 25, 2011 BUY FOR THE MULTIPLAYER EA’s Battlefield series has touted itself and spurred its fans to tout it as the chief rival to and potentially better than the current most popular series, Activision’s Call of Duty. Who’s really to say which is better than the other, as each offers different experiences. But in the case of Battlefield 3, the real rivalry is not with Call of Duty, but within itself in the form of single-player campaign vs. multiplayer. The end result is incredibly unbalanced, leaving me to strongly urge everyone who prefers campaign play over multiplayer to leave this game on the store shelves. “Unbalanced” is really the best description for the campaign. The gameplay flips from being easy to the point of boring to hair-pulling frustrating in a nanosecond. The same can be said

    Review: Dance Central 2

Rating: T (for Teen) Genre: Music, Rhythm Publisher: Harmonix Developer: Harmonix Release date: October 25th BUY Harmonix is back this holiday with Dance Central 2. Dance Central 2 is more than just a second edition, it’s an education on what a dance game should be. There are new tracks, new routines and new modes. This game has improvements in it that separates it from the pack of Kinect games, making it a must get for Kinect gamers. The User Interface is similar to the first game. Cue cards are on the right side for what dance step is next. The dances on the screen are easy to follow if you have no idea what the cue card means. What I would do is sort of keep moving, but watch what the dancer did. This helped me make sure I did it correctly when the move came again (which in most

Review – Dragon Age 2: Mark of the Assassin DLC

Last week we got new DLC from BioWare for Dragon Age 2 called Mark of the Assassin. This DLC gives you total roughly another four or five hours of gameplay and almost ALL of it involves the internet’s geeky sweetheart, Felicia Day. That in itself wouldn’t be so bad, but these days, it seems to me that a little bit of Felicia Day goes a long, long way (I mean – she seems to be everywhere I turn right now) and in all honesty, I could’ve done with a little less of her in the new DLC. If you played the Legacy DLC, you’re already familiar with how these things are working. In Hawke’s Kirkwall estate, there’s a new statue in the library that activates the story for the DLC. You’re transported to where the quest starts – ‘it’s a trap!’ and then the new character (the one modeled after

Hands On Preview: Elder Scrolls Skyrim

Friday we got a sneak peek at Elder Scrolls Skyrim. We got a three hour sit down with the game. Just me, an Xbox 360 and Skyrim (a few other people in the room doing the same thing, but I hardly noticed them). The reason I hardly noticed them, was that Skyrim kept me utterly engrossed. In fact, if after the three hours they had told me I could keep playing for another three I would not have turned them down. Like we said in our E3 Skyrim preview the graphics are stunning. There are moments where I would just stand on top of the mountain and look around. It never re-rendered as I was looking around, it was a smooth look at the vast territory of Skyrim. I even found some perched areas that almost seemed meant for the player to pause and take it all in. We spoke
