Grab the family & a board game on #TableTopday!
Today is #TableTopDay! I know I didn’t give you a ton of advanced notice, but I have baby brain so I forget easily. But this morning while pumping, I saw the hashtag #tabletopday and looked up the information. The day is hosted by awesome geek channel, Geek and Sundry. The idea is to grab your family and friends and spend the day playing any board games. If you are in need of ideas, Geek and Sundry has approved board games at Target stores. Most recently we received Star Trek Catan and plan on diving into that today. DriveThruStuff has 20 free RPG books for today. Your local comic book or tabletop gaming store is probably sure to have an event. Head over to TableTopDay.com to put in your zipcode and see what is happening locally. Or you can just tune in to http://geekandsundry.com for link to the live stream event

Hasbro teams up with PopCap to create Bejeweled games
Hasbro is teaming up with PopCap games to create board games from some of PopCap’s popular properties. “Hasbro shares PopCap’s vision and commitment to high quality and endlessly enjoyable game play,” said Brennan Townley, Director of Brand Licensing at PopCap Games. “We’re thrilled to work with Hasbro to create unique game experiences around PopCap’s intellectual properties that expand our brands in authentic, meaningful ways.” Two new games will come out in 2013 based on PopCap’s Bejeweled. A game so popular it’s sold over 50 million digital units worldwide. My parents just got an iPad for the holidays and are already addicted to Bejeweled. In the Hasbro version of the Bejeweled game players will swap gems on a board to match 3 or more to win. In Bejeweled Frenzy, players will build stacks of cards as fast as they can. Both games will come with digital aspects to add to your

Scrapbooking the geeky way
I have a new hobby. Not sure when I’ll have time for it, but I’m fascinated and I’m going to give it a go. Scrapbooking is a hobby typically thought of as a way to showcase pictures in a book. Move over photo albums, each scrapbook page can have a theme, fancy text and embellishments around the picture. But scrapbooking has gone beyond things you want to put in a photo album. I’ve made a few cards already (one steampunk card which was fun to make), and I’m learning new techniques for making a journal or gift books. Because all of my hobbies take away time from GamingAngels, I thought I would actually take this one and feature my findings and my creations on GamingAngels. Maybe coercing a few of you to do the same. I have a couple of scrapbook orders coming in so this week I thought I

Hasbro gives Twister a new twist
It’s a Britney Twist! Hasbro is looking to modernize their game Twister. The white sheet of colored dots has been replaced with movable Twister spots. The “spinner” is replaced with the Twister Console. And instead of calling out the color, the console is calling out moves. That’s right, Twister Dance is a dance game. Britney Spears is the spokesperson for the title and the console will release with “Till the World Ends”. “Dancing has been such an important part of my life since I was a little girl,” said Britney Spears. “As soon as I saw the new TWISTER DANCE game, I knew I wanted to be involved. I think kids will love rocking the spots and dancing to the music as much as my boys and I do. It’s a lot of fun!” Players will be able to upload other songs to the console and it will create the

Apples to Apples coming to console & Facebook
I love Mattel’s game Apples to Apples. In the boardgame, one player picks a word and the others place cards from their hand that they think the player would associate most closely to that word. Or in the cases I’ve played, what that person is most likely to pick based on personal preferences. For example, anything Disney always wins when it’s my turn to pick. Apples to Apples is a great conversation starter and great for families or adults. Apples to Apples is now coming to console and social networks. It will be released first on Xbox Live and Playstation Network this winter for 800 MS Points or $9.99 on PSN. What’s interesting is there is a single player mode included. Not sure why anyone would want to play this as a single player. Online and local modes support up to six players. New to the game are Golden Apple

Games with Kids: Lemming Mafia
Game Name: Lemming Mafia Designer: Michael Rieneck Artist: Joscha Sauer # of Players: 3 – 6 Suggested Ages: 8+ Average playing time: 15 – 20 minutes When we went to Free Comic Book Day back in May, I decided it would be fun to get a new family game. After some discussion with the boy (9), we decided on Lemming Mafia, because it looked silly, and we like silly. The helpful people at the comic book shop also recommended it, saying that it is a quick game, which is nice for a weeknight game session. We meant to play this game right away, but somehow time got away from us, and it went on our game shelf and was forgotten for a few months. Last weekend we had some friends over and finally got it out, and we are so glad we did! We started with a review of

First Look – Penny Arcade The Game: Gamers vs. Evil
I definitely got my video game on while at PAX, but I also made it a point to check out some tabletop gaming, and boy am I glad that I stopped off at the Cryptozoic booth. They were demoing their new Penny Arcade deck building game “Penny Arcade – The Game: Gamers vs. Evil”, and man, what a fun game! To start the game, you choose between different roles such as Gabe, Tycho and other familiar faces from the comic strip and then work to build up your deck. To do this, you use tokens to get merch cards or use power cards (cardboard tubes!) to make your deck more PvP based. The monsters you can snag for your deck are great, and can even infect the other players with the dreaded Pax Pox! You will of course need some good strategy, and it begins with picking the character you’re
