EA makes a smart move with Origin

Electronic Arts announced that they will be waiving distribution feeds on Origin for any developer that has a successfully crowd-funded, ready to publish PC game. This is INCREDIBLY smart of EA to take on. Origin will provide distribution services for free for 90 days after the games launch, giving the company a chance to let 12 million registered users know about their game. “Crowd-funded projects are like the ‘people’s choice awards’ — a way for gaming fans to express what they want to buy and play,” said Jane Jensen, President, Pinkerton Road. “It’s great to see a big publisher like EA acknowledging that and opening up distribution opportunities for these games.” One developer is already planning to release to the Origin subscribers: “I have had a long relationship with EA and it is great to see them recognize and support the crowd-funded games model,” said Brian Fargo, CEO, inXile Entertainment.

Consumers want games with Physical Activity

While some of us gamers may groan and moan when we have to “move” to play a game, a new survey shows that people want a physical component to their games. The survey was conducted by UnitedHealth Group and showed that consumers want games that complement traditional exercise by making them be physical. Of the 1,015 adults surveyed, 75% of them want to get physical in their games. Mostly because they believe it can complement their traditional exercise. Perhaps a sign that more and more people would work out in the convenience of their own home. More than half of those surveyed said that active video games would encourage them to be active and get their butts off the couch. While 60% of those with kids said that they want games to encourage their kids to get up and be physical. “As a physician, I believe people of all ages

Diablo III animated short “Wrath” released

I love seeing what game developers and publishers do to help promote their upcoming games, and I think Blizzard has done another such thing with this Diablo III animated short. Entitled “Diablo III: Wrath” it was released yesterday on YouTube, the short was a collaboration between Blizzard, Aeon Flux creator Peter Chung and animation studio Titmouse who is famous for their series Metalocalypse. The names alone told me that this was going to be a fantastic thing, and after watching it I’m now wanting this to be a full on animated series. There’s plenty of lore to pull from, so why not? I can only hope and dream of such a thing to grace my TV on [adult swim]. You can watch Diablo III: Wrath below:

Bioshock Infinite pushed back to 2013

In a letter written to the community, Irrational Games co-founder Ken Levine has stated that they will be moving the release of Bioshock Infinite to Februrary 26, 2013. And it’s not just the release date that has changed. Irrational Games will not be showing anything for Bioshock Infinite at E3 or at Gamescom. “That way, the next time you see our game, it will be essentially the product we intend to put in the box. Preparing for these events takes time away from development, time we’re going to use instead to get the best version of Infinite into your hands in February,” says Ken. Now while I am a bit sad that I won’t get my hands on the game this year, I’m also a bit happy that they are taking the time to make sure that the final product they put out is the best it can be and will make
