Dark Horse creates Tyrion statue for Game of Thrones collectors
We’re huge Game of Thrones fans here at GamingAngels. I can’t wait for the show and Wintercast (our podcast) to come back. But until then, Game of Thrones collectors can get their hand on a Tyrion statue newly announced from Dark Horse. The statue depicts Tyrion, as portrayed by Peter Dinklage in the TV show, charging into battle leading the defense of King’s Landing against King Stannis Baratheon’s assault. “When Dark Horse Deluxe began developing a new line of collectibles based on the HBO® adaptation of Game of Thrones, we were pleased to discover we had the full attention of all involved, from the team at HBO Global Licensing to the principals steering in the production,” said Dark Horse’s VP of Product Development, David Scroggy. “The Tyrion statue is a benefit of that communication, and we know the fans and collectors will recognize the quality that is the result.” Here

Target announces some pricey Hunger Games merchandise
Maybe because the target audience of fans of the Hunger games is women/young girls, but Target is expecting Hunger Games fans to spend when it comes to their favorite franchise. The press release does have details about the Hunger Games DVD ($20.99)and Blu-Ray ($25.99). Both are available for preorder now at Target.com/HungerGames. But because the movie is so popular they have additional merchandise you can purchase. Most of the collectibles shown on the Target site seem affordable and range from earrings to candle holders. But the press release mentions a few “rare” items that they must believe fans will pay for. The “premium” items will be on the website on the day of the DVD release on August 18th. The keepsakes include: “14-carat gold replicas of heroine Katniss Everdeen’s famed Mockingjay pin (the story’s symbol of rebellion), with 100 available at $999 each; leather replicas of Katniss’ hunting jacket, with

The Hobbit becomes a Trilogy
The press release came in today to announce that Peter Jackson or Warner Bros will be squeezing the Hobbit for all it’s worth by making it a trilogy. Yes the latest Hollywood fad has hit the Hobbit. Jackson stated, “Upon recently viewing a cut of the first film, and a chunk of the second, Fran Walsh, Philippa Boyens and I were very pleased with the way the story was coming together. We recognized that the richness of the story of The Hobbit, as well as some of the related material in the appendices of The Lord of the Rings, gave rise to a simple question: do we tell more of the tale? And the answer from our perspective as filmmakers and fans was an unreserved ‘yes.’ We know the strength of our cast and of the characters they have brought to life. We know creatively how compelling and engaging the

Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog makes TV debut
What started as an online masterpiece, will now be making it’s way for television. Unfortunately it’s not a sequel, but the original Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog that will be on CW on Tuesday, October 9 (9-10pm ET). Joss Whedon created the three-part online musical in 2008. It stars Neil Patrick Harris, Felicia Day, and Nathan Fillion. All in hilarious roles. Neil Patrick Harris plays Dr. Horrible who is trying to get accepted into he Evil League of Evil. Of course with Nathan Fillion as his superhero arch nemesis, Captain Hammer, hilarity ensues. If you haven’t seen it yet, tune in. If you have seen it, tune in. Either way support for Joss Whedon on TV can only lead to more Joss Whedon ideas on TV. And we can only hope for more Dr. Horrible.

Disney at San Diego Comic Con
Disney hosted a great Hall H panel at San Diego Comic Con yesterday. The films featured were Frankenweenie, Oz the Great, and Wreck It Ralph. For Frankenweenie, Tim Burton came on stage to answer Q&A and showcase more footage. An interesting fact is that Tim Burton had envisioned the movie as a full length stop motion film, but due to budget had to make it a short film instead. Now he gets to revisit his work and make it complete. Here is a video from the homage trailer: Oz the Great featured director Sam Raimi. I found curious that there were quite a few times where people asked about the intersection between this and Wizard of Oz. But there isn’t any. This movie takes place way before Dorthy ends up in Oz. Find out more at the official site. Wreck it Ralph was my favorite! The director came out along

Fantasy Friday: Shopping for Medieval Attire
In New York the Sterling Renaissance Festival season is in full bloom. So, while at work in between delivering the mail and handing out office supplies, I looked for an affordable wardrobe for this year’s festival. No matter which way you cut it, a full medieval outfit costs a big purse, but I found this one site that satisfies any geek, even if you don’t actually buy anything. Medieval Collectibles has a category for everything. In addition to individual cloaks, swords, breastplates, etc., the site has collections based off movies, television shows and video games. The best part is not all the collections are from the medieval era. The Harry Potter collection is tantalizing. 25 bucks for a Gryffindor scarf could satisfy New York winters and show off my not so inner geek. The Harry Potter collection is one of the more extensive collections. Some of the others only have

MAC collaborates with Archie Comics for makeup line
MAC is always so so smart. They’ve had great short-term makeup lines in the past specifically aimed at the female geek. From Disney Villians to Wonder Woman and now Betty and Veronica. At SDCC MAC is hosting a pop-up cosmetic store to showcase their Archie Comics Makeup Line. I guess you finally get to pick if you are a Betty or Veronica girl. M·A·C Archie’s Girls will be launching in Spring 2013. It is inspired by Dan Parent from the Archie Series. The full colour cosmetics collection will celebrate the iconic beauty looks of Betty and Veronica. The pop up store has limited hours, but I will hopefully drop in later tonight for pictures and more information on the line. Update: Went to the MAC store last night. Stood for an hour and 45 minutes for an Archie sketch only for the artist to decide he couldn’t do anymore sketches
