Whedon’s final issue and the Return of Gambit!

My favorite X-Men, Gambit, is making his appearance back into X-Men Legacy! I miss his hotness and that southern drawl. In X-Men: Legacy #213 some light will be focused on a villain from Xavier’s childhood. “Solid story, interesting plot developments, great art, it is hard to ask for more out of a comic book.” said Comicbulletin.com’s Christopher Power. Turns out a former love of Gambit’s has a part in Xavier’s past. Joss Whedon concludes his run with Runaways #30. The heroes in Runaways are trapped in 1907 and they are trying to find their way back. The comic is penciled by Michael Ryan. Follow

    Insufferable Suffolk Gang #1/2

“Insufferable Suffolk Gang vs Charlie the Chimp” or “A Waste of Paper Told in 9 Pages”. Let’s first talk about the art. It’s all in black and white, which I am a fan of. However I find it a lot more simple compared to other stuff Mr. Lawson has written. As far as story goes, it’s zany and well thought out. It consists of 4 members of the Suffolk Gang (one which does not appear) all bumbling and all going after a chimp which has stolen a brain. The comic is full of throw backs to old comics, consiting of snarky comments from the author himself. The ending is a throw back to old school sitcoms. It’s lame enough to make you shake your head, but awesome enough to make you enjoy the humor. All in all, the writing is well thought out and clever. The writing is cheesy, but I

    An Introduction of Sorts

I can’t begin to tell you how excited I was when Trina contacted me to write on Gaming Angels. This place is beautiful and I’m really looking forward to meeting everyone here and getting to chat with and know you all. A little bit about myself: My daily persona is that of a mild-mannered accountant in the San Francisco Bay Area. By night, I’m a rabid netizen and comic book reader. Many are the night when I’ve sat in bed with my stack of comics and realized that yet again, I have read well into the night and will not be getting enough sleep. Ah, yes, dreaming about the X-Men and waking up in the morning to put on slacks and drudge out into the real world. In terms of video gaming, well, modern video games have gotten just too gorgeous and too good. The more realistic games give me

    Cape vs Noncape.

Many people have asked why I do not read most Cape comics. So, I thought I would discuss why I choose to read indie and non-cape comics. First of all, I find the art in most cape comics to be simple and boring. The story lines are usually the same when you pick them apart. Then there is the 15 million side stories they make from one series. I mean, how many Countdown’s do we need? I also find a lot of the comics to be to wordy, and the stories do not catch my attention. I’m a lover of fantasy, the psychological, the weird, the mysterious, mystical and anything else like that. It’s a big reason Batman is one of the only cape comics I will read. It’s not just, “KA-POW”, heroes fight villains etc etc type stuff. Take, “Arkham Asylum”, for example. The art is surreal, and it’s

Marvel Interviews Orson Scott Card about Enders Game

Marvel recently interviewed Orson Scott Card about his involvement with the Ender’s Game comics. Both “Ender’s Game” and “Ender’s Shadow” will have comic adaptations. Which is really interesting for fans of the Ender series. For those that may not be familiar, “Ender’s Game” focuses on the journey of children that have to fight for Earth’s survival against an extraterrestrial threat. The comic books might be a great way to become familiar with the stories. Check out the video for some interesting news and get excited for the upcoming Ender series. Follow

Marvel’s comics on sale this week

I usually dread Mondays. You never know how things are going to go and if you’ll have to hit the day running. But today has brought about some pleasant surprises, along with Marvel releasing their comics that will be released this week on 5/14. This way you can give your local comic book store a heads up and ask them to pull the comics for you. We haven’t really discussed this process yet, but most comic book stores will actually keep a list of comics that you are in the middle of collecting and will “pull” or “brown bag” your releases for the week. This saves you from having to roam the store aimlessly and perhaps missing something you really wanted. Updates like this from Marvel help, or you can get a Previews book which will give you a rundown on the releases for all comic book publishers and you

    Interview with Curtis Lawson

I sat down with Curtis Lawson, a local Comic Book writer who owns his own publishing company and asked him questions about being a writer as well as Comics. written by Shampoo150 1. Ok, let’s start with an easy one (or not, depending haha!). Marvel or DC and why? Marvel, hands down. Maybe it’s because that’s what I grew up reading, but I just feel a connection with those characters. Also, I’m just a complete x-nerd. As for DC, I like Lobo and most things Gotham, but other than that I just can’t get into it. 2. You have a comic called, “Kincaid” can you tell us a bit about it, and where the idea came from? Kincaid is the story of a heroin addicted punk musician named Elvis Kincaid. For reasons beyond his knowledge, Elvis gains super powers one day. because of his new found powers and now super

The Bad Kids and the Birth of an Obsession

Ok, so in my last post I mentioned my comic book store. I’d really like to take the time and write a blog about it. I want you guys to know about the place that started my comic book obsession. Comicazi was founded by Mike, Dave and Bob. They opened up shop in 2000 in Davis Square, Somerville MA. Since then they have opened up a second store in Arlington, MA and moved their Davis Square store. I have a subscription box at Comicazi, and while most comic shops do this, I have not been to one who makes me feel more welcome than them. So, here are my top 10 reasons why Comicazi rocks. And I hope your local shop is as great as them 1. They encourage loitering. I’ve gone in, hung out for a few hours and not bought anything. No one gives me dirty looks or

A couple of news items from Marvel

Marvel has sent a couple of news items before we start our weekend. First up, the picture here is a sneap peak at the X-Men Legacy cover. In Joe Quesada’s newest installment of MyCup o’ Joe you will get an exclusive preview of Millar/Hitch’s Fantastic Four #557, a sneak peak at the return of Gambit in X-Men: Legacy (I’ve always loved Gambit), and reaction to the secret Invasion. You can catch Cup o Joe here: http://www.marvel.com/cupojoe In other news, Marko Djurdjevic has created a variant cover to The Eternals #1. Eternals #1 will be on sale 6/4/08 and writers Charlie & Daniel Knauf take over Neil Gaimain’s work on the series. Where the eternals must unite to fight an evil force that wants to take over…you guessed it, Earth. Follow
