I can't seem to beat Odin in Final Fantasy XIII. I've read two gamefaqs all ready on it before anyone tells me to look there. and that's just a small problem. The bigger problem being that Hope is the most {expletive} useless and annoying character EVER! He either dies in thirty to fifty seconds and if I really work at it…a minute. Okay fine…maybe I need to level these guys up. No problem. I try and go back to find other monsters, but I can't run away from the two soldiers and that giant Ulher machine thing that guards the beginning of the bridge before Odin. okay fine. Hope always croaks. I hate really HATE the paradigm system! I get it how to use it, but they change the names of the different combinations depending who or what your party is and you can't memorize it and have to try and memorize it through the menu before battle. I am so pissed off and frustrated with this game I am never buying another Final Fantasy game EVER…

Squeenix did a craptastic job with this one. No towns, can't even explore…can't even get to the interesting part of the game because of useless characters and crappy battle system that is suppose to make gameplay fun, but makes it frustrating. The only real character that I think in my opinion is developed well is Lightning. Snow seems like they put his "hero" stereo type and they were making fun of it, but sadly they are being serious with him. Vanille is confusing and way over the top optimistic that it seems fake (then again I haven't gotten too far to maybe change my mind to see how her character development), and I like Sazh's character and chocobo companion.

I seriously almost threw my controller at the tv so I had to take a breather in another room. I've been trying to enjoy the game for the past week. I've enjoyed it a little bit, but the frustration outways the fun on this one. I work in the daytime and go to school at night. Yeah, my games should be challenging, but not frustrating to the point of tearing hair out. I don't have time to spend forever on a game when I want the story part out of my RPG, because then I'm going to forget what's going on, lose interest, write angry letter to game developer…lolz…

Anyways, I had to rant, sorry, any tips for Odin to possibly make it easier would be helpful. But, with only Hope along with Lightning in the party I highly doubt I'll get anywhere.

It's actually not too bad of a fight if you set up for it. You need to have the Symbiosis, War & Peace and Dualcasting Paradigms. Also, before you initiate the battle, go into your Settings and turn the speed from Normal to Slow (you can switch it back afterwards). Start with Symbiosis so Hope can cast a couple protection spells, then switch to War & Peace. After a while, Odin does a special guard move, at which point you want to switch to Dualcasting. Odin is all about healing wounded party members and chaining attacks, so when Lightning's health starts to drop, quickly go to War & Peace. You should be able to fill the Gestalt meter before Doom kills you as long as you use Dualcasting whenever you have more than 1/2 of Lightning's health.

I am not playing FF but I stand by xbox360achievements.org. The forum is very responsive and not as childish as gamefaqs can be.

Isn't a big part of it that you need to keep healing Hope? I think the point of the exercise is that he needs to be revived a lot. :x So Lightning needs to do the healing. I always noticed the Gestalt meter going up a bit every time I helped him out.

Hope can heal himself automatically since he's not the party leader at that point. You might have to use a potion or phoenix down a couple times in the battle, but the biggest part is getting the chain attacks up there.

I know he can, but since the video bit before was about Lightning not caring about him, I thought Odin showed up to prove her wrong! Basically, I thought the whole battle was supposed to teach you a lesson, sort of like how getting Shiva was sort of a lesson. Or maybe I just read story into battles. But I know I'm not the first person to think that!

Thanks everyone. The irony though in this is after I ranted and got my anger and frustration out I tried the battle once more and still died but I was able to go back a little and some how fight the random battles a bit. Then a second try after said frustration I defeated Odin. The funny part to all of this is while Lightning being leader and having Hope is really difficult…after that and when you switch to Hope being leader it's easier and I don't know why. Right now I'm in the cagey parts of a science lab stuff?

>^_^<;;  I was never good with directions…

I know that more difficult battles are ahead and I just have to keep my cool and maybe angrilly rant in my live journal to save everyone's ears…or in this case eyes. I know I'm going to be lividly angry ranting when and if I ever get to the final boss. I can deal with this new battle system, but it doesn't mean have to like it. Squeenix in my opinion tried to hard to make this title's game and battle system different from the other Final Fantasy games and succeeded very well, but sacrificed fun and simplicity (I like my games simple, but not too simple mind you).

It's all good. I had a boss later on that took me 6 attempts to defeat, and I was doing the same things every time. After death #3 I put the game down for a while. Each attempt took 15-20min, so that's about 2 hours of me being pissed off at the screen and swearing and hating everything in the room. =P
