It's that time of the year again…
I know it's a little early since Christmas isn't here yet, but you can't be too early to think about New Years Resolutions and video games. In the past I tried making a video game weight loss challenge or whatever it was called. So to make everything easier for this upcoming year, and to make us Angels healthier, I made a different challenge for us gamers as a gaming community.
We are gamers at heart, and as such gamers we like a little fun in our daily life challenges. So, this year for the year 2010, for those Angels who want to join, but you don't have to join this healthy game challenge if you don't want to. Also, I am not implying anything or trying to offend anyone. I am an overweight gamer and I'm not talking about ten to thirty pounds overweight either. I just want to motivate as many people as I can to be healthy and happy. All though, if your healthy and/or happy all ready you can just ignore me and there is no harm done. So, without further adieux, here is the challenge…
Starting January 2, 2010 there will be a weight loss challenge for those who want to participate.
You state your weight, reasons for wanting to lose weight, or if your weight is perfect, but you need/want a reason to be healthy then you can do that too.
You also state what gaming method your going to use in order to be healthy. I.E.: DDR, Wii Fit, In the Groove, Stepmania, Yourself Fitness (PC)/My Fitness Coach (Wii), Jillian Micheal's what's her title game workout thing…
As long as it's a video game that your using for your goal then your not disqualified. You can also use if you want other methods of exercise as well, but let people know that too.
The challenge is to lose at least thirty pounds by April 3, 2010. And for those who join who need a different goal will be in a different class of either losing five or ten pounds. I'll call all three categories Class A, Class B, and Class C.
I'll reward each class accordingly with bragging rights and achievement awards in the form of art that they can put on their sigs or whatever.
My method will be DDR.
Who will join me this year?

Repost from old thread:
I'd like to get in on this. I'll be doing a combination of EA Active and pilates. My goal is 10lbs a month, so you can say 40lbs by the end of April. =)
Sadly I've put on a few pounds over the last year that have come from stress, inactivity, etc. The added weight is putting more stress on my already bad ankles (from years of working long retail hours & then my car accident). I've been trying to eat healither, making more meals at home and playing around with portion sizes to help curb my bad appetite. This challenge is a great idea.

Again, I'm so down for this! I can't do DDR because of my insanely small room (it's a 9ft by 9ft square; i kid you not), but I ride my bike and walk a lot during school, so I'm gonna try it the old fashioned way! My goal's 20 pounds.
Good luck to everyone!

I'm totally down for this too! I hope that with my new job, I'll be walking more so that will help me burn calories, but I'm up to try this. Would we check in weekly? My goal will be 30 lbs. I'll figure out what combo of exercise gaming I'm going to do. Yukino, maybe you know of some companies that would love to give away prizes at goal dates or weigh ins!

This sounds intresting, count me in. I've been trying to lose 20 more pounds, and maybe this could be that push that will help.
Game will be DDR and ITG.

Great! Uh…what's ITG?
Oh and I got a Wii-Fit Plus for Christmas!! Wooooo!!!
So I need to re-state what I am using. I'll be using DDR and Wii-Fit!
And I got other great news Angels! In the last week and a half of doing DDR I dropped five pounds! So instead of 299 lbs. I'm 294 lbs.!
Wii-Fit is all weird, cool, new, and funny, but with practice I'm sure I'll get it. The Kung fu I didn't do so well though. Like the controls werent responding, but everything else is great. I love the running, boxing, and yoga breathing exercises so far.
26 more lbs. to go!!

Yes, Weekly check ins would be great so that we know where we stand at and we could all keep on top of things and give each other encouragment. So by my calculations if we start January 2, 2010 with the 90 day challange (it's okay to start a little early if you want, because of the holidays I or everyone might yo-yo with my/their couple of pounds). Anyway the first check in would be January 9th, 2010. We can do it!

Saiyu! That's awesome news! The first few pounds tend to be the hardest, aren't they, while you're getting into the swing of things. Mm, I'm going to try to cut back to 1 soda a day again, like I did while gearing up for my summer job. That alone helped me lose at least 5-10 pounds.
Hm, maybe I'll try to find an arcade near me that has a DDR machine or hook up the PS2 sometimes and actually do the DDR part. I don't have anything other than a couple PS2 versions, and there's no wii in my house. -sadface- Oh well! Someone's gotta be crazy and try it 'normally'. April 3 is right before my birthday, so I'm, personally, shooting for April 8th. I wanna drop 20 pounds for my 20th birthday!!
Question for all: on Jan 2, should we post our starting weight (for those of us that don't mind sharing it, that is) so we can keep track of how much in case we, for some reason, happen to forget how far along we are in the course of our lives?

I think posting starting weight is a good idea, for those who wish to share. Thrallmind & I will be weighing-in in the morning before we have breakfast, and we figured Sat mornings for weekly weighings makes the most sense.
My biggest vice is baking, which I love to do, need to cut back on that a bit. But like I said, my biggest problem is portions. I've started using smaller plates for serving myself in hopes that it will help. The most important issue now is the exercise. =)

I'm in! I gotta get back into the habit of playing DDR/ITG/Stepmania again. It's been months since I played on a regular basis. Plus, I'd like to be in better shape and have more energy.
I don't know my overall goal yet, but I'd like to lose at least 15 lbs. by my birthday, February 12th.

Repost: (sorry so long but I had been planning on doing this anyway and put much thought ino it)
As soon as my kids return to school I am going to kick off with a 2-week super strict diet. Its what my fav radio show host Jason Ellis uses when he kicks off training for a new MMA match. He and his wife are very fit and healthy. He gives steps to keep your weight and diet healthy after the 2-week start on is website.
All protein can be paired with eating fresh celery, tomato, peppers, and/or onion. beverages are limited to water and black coffee
breakfast – 3 egg whites or a bowl of plain oatmeal
snakc- 1/2 apple
lunch – 1 can of tuna
snack 1/2 apple
dinner – grilled chicken breast
It sounds harsh but these are foods I love to eat anyways. Limiting my portions will be difficult and going 2 weeks without breads and pastas will be the most difficult. But this diet gives your body only what it needs and nothing else. You will lose 20-30 lbs if you behave
Afterwards my husband and I have taken a few ideas to follow up with. Like, you should only eat whole wheat pastas and breads, NO POP, NO FAST FOOD, your protein intake should be about the size of your hand matched with twice as many HEALTHY carbs, square meals ( a meat a starch and a veggie ) and since quick and easy has been a habit of ours, we will make several healthy meals on the weekend and freeze them for on the go moments during the week. And we are going to take the weekends off to indulge lol
As far as exercise I dont have a Wii or DDR, so not sure I count in the competition aspect. But I am going to use my Netflix instants to workout in several different ways. My fav would have to be yoga. I do it in that one hour I have when my husband has left for work and the kids are not home yet. Its perfet for destressing and getting my body ready for something more vigorous in the months to come.
My goal is 50 lbs.
edit- reasons to lose weight. I am a tall big boned girl to begin with. at my lowest weight and lookin like I was starving I was 170 lbs. I am now almost 250lbs and still carrying baby weight from my 9 year old daughter lol So I have just fallen into the lull of life and stopped caring much about my appearence. this past year my husband and I have agreed that 30 isnt that old and theres no reason to feel 40!! Time to get sexy!!
P.S. along with the weight loss I have promised not to cut more than an inch at a time off my hair til next school year begins. I think I may even throw in NO HAIR DYE (OMG).
I dont own a scale. So I will use my MIL's every friday morning when we run errands. Hopefully I don't forget!

Count me in. My husband got me Wii Fit for Christmas, and I could always use some friends to help hold me accountable. I'm going to give up sodas completely, and as a bonus I will be using January 2nd as my date to quit smoking.

Part of me is yelling "no, don't put it in writing!!!" righ tnow…but I think this is a great idea to keep motivated. I am a terrible procrastinator, and I tend to have life A.D.D, but I'm really trying to structure some things and this healthy challenge on GA certainly couldn't hurt Like Folenswife, I plan to quit smoking after the 1st of the year also, and I'm going to need something to keep me active and not pacing the floor eating candy. I'm trying to steer my diet in a healthier direction also…back to living without soda and eating a lot more fresh foods, fruits & veggies. I don't "diet", it's just not in my DNA, but I am all about eating healthy.
So I shall join you all. I don't necessarilly have a goal for weight loss, although 15-20 lbs. sounds about right. I will be using DDR and Wii fit plus (with some help from my eliptical machine and an ab roller).

Count me in as well. Almost two years ago, I got really on track and lost 40lbs in 4 months…then I changed jobs and let it consume me in every way possible. So I need to refocus my energy and take control again.
Anyone else use SparkPeople.com? It's fantastic to help track cals and exercise. (We could even have a gamingangels team over there too!) I don't "diet". "Diet" is too non-committal to me. I take responsibility for what I put into my body and track every calorie to make sure I'm staying within range. It may sound constrictive to some, but it's really not. It's making you more aware of your eating habits, and the assumptions you have about it. The first day I ever tracked my calories, I thought I was eating really healthy that day. Turns out, I had consumed over 3000 calories. It was a serious eye-opener.
I'll be using my Wii Fit, along with yoga (Oxygen's "Inhale" — love it!), and walking. Maybe even some of those netflix instants or some of the 10 min vids on SparkPeople.
I'm a vegetarian, so fast food rarely comes up for me. My goal is to eat more fresh items. As much as I love Boca burgers, they still are processed food. I've been good about eating lots of veggies so far, so I guess that's a good start!

GamingAngel…yeah that plan is to give up soda completely. I always start the day with a Mountain Dew or a Pepsi, and the same thing goes when I get home from work. I know that alone would help me a lot….I've done it before, and I know I can do it again.
Rachel, I'll make a deal with you….you hold me accountable for any time I slip and smoke a cig, and I'll do the same for you. My husband is a smoker, so it's definitely going to be difficult. But I'm determined to do it….

FolensWife- Isn't it the worst when they dont wanna do things with you??? I have had to tell my husband I am dead serious about this and I dont want any pop in the house. He has to leave his at work if he wants it. But I know if its around I will be too tempted to say no. As far as smoking… i am taking things one step at a time. I know losing my fav munchies will suck, but if I couldnt have a cig instead I would go nuts and fail at all attempts to improve myself. So one thing at a time here. My biggest fear is that when I do quit smoking I will gain a ton of weight. I hear the munchies really call to you when trying to quit.

I actually don't mind that my hubby isn't quitting with me. I never really asked him, and I'm just doing it for me for a variety of reasons. Don't get me wrong….I would love for him to quit smoking, but he's got to make that decision on his own. We're already spending 50 bucks a carton, so I know just me quitting smoking will free up a considerable amount of money. I've been reading alot on becomeanex.com, and I read about the appetite thing. I'd be willing to bet that the weight I've lost over the last year or so with no real effort has to do with my smoking. I'm worried about quitting and afraid I'll be way too irritable, but I miss my singing voice. I love to sing, and I've noticed I can't hit the notes I used to be able to. That could just be a factor of getting a little older too, but I'm going to stick with the assumption it's because of smoking to encourage myself to quit LOL.
As far as eating better and exercising, my big thing is going to be motivation. I've tried getting into some sort of an exercise routine in the past, and every time it has died simply because I get home from work exhausted and all I want to do is sit down and relax. I've subscribed to this thread, so I'm hoping the reminder that all of you ladies are here for me to check in with will help keep me motivated to take off this excess weight once and for all. I've got a considerable amount I'd like to lose and am still working on breaking that large number into smaller, more reasonable goals. I'll be checking back in to let yall know what my goals are going to be after I figure out for myself.

I won't lie, I need to lose more than the 40 I want to have gone by then end of April. This is a good kick-start in the butt to get going. The biggest hurdle is getting into a routine. I have faith we can all do this together. =)
