Hey everyone. So tonight, I'm looking at my week next week and it's full of conferences and just awesome stuff that I get to bring coverage to all of you. In thinking about this stuff, I started thinking about my dream. My dream is to do this. To run GA, with the wonderful ladies that make up our staff and really grow this place to be the number one community for women that love geeky hobbies. It's my dream that I think about every night, wake up to every morning, and wonder when we'll get there.

But that also got me thinking that this would be a great topic. What is your dream? I think by putting it out there, you never know if someone could help you with advice to get to your dream.

I really like the idea of posting our dreams. My dreams tend to be heavily planned out and streamlined for optimal goal achievment. I'm kidding, but I have a plan to at least shove myself in the direction that I want to go which right now involves more college than anyone should want to attend. =P

My dream, my hopefully obtainable dream, is to work for a game development company as a programmer. I'll have my developer associate's degree this coming May, along with an associate's in General Science so I can transfer to UMBC to get a Bachelor's/Masters in Info Systems. I've seen glimpses of my dream already though, which makes me want it more. Mr. Mike McDonald has come to talk to my little community college as a lecturer (where I totally got my picture taken with him since I'm such a nerd) and recently he showed up again at an important meeting for my school's technology department which I happened to be assigned student representative to. Our paths have now crossed twice and he has an interest in my community college, and I will be moving closer to his game studio after May since UMBC is in Baltimore. I will probably see him again in the Spring and hope to arrange some face time with him formally during his visit. I doubt many of you will recognize him by name or even by the development studio, Day 1 Studios; but I'm sure someone played the Mechwarrior games that were released with Xbox's launch, Fracture, or F.E.A.R. I'm just hoping somehow the stars and planets align and he'll actually give me an opportunity sometime to interview for a position with his studio someday when I have a few more languages and syntax under my belt. I don't even want to be a huge awesome everything programmer, I'd be happy making a menu system or something to that effect. Either way, I'm hoping the opportunity will afford itself someday and maybe he'll even remember me from the meetings.

Hmm, well if we are talking dream jobs, I think I would like to be a pediatrics nurse at one of the fantastic children's hospitals here. I am obviously working on that dream, and I actually get to start some clinical experience at one of them tomorrow afternoon/evening. For a long time I didn't know what I wanted to do, and when I finally decided that nursing was something that made sense in my life, I began the long, challenging road to nursing school. I am almost halfway through the program now, and, despite the constant fear that I wasn't going to like it or be able to do it, and all that preparation, time, and money would be wasted, I am very happy and think I have made the right decision. It's nice to think I am taking steps to making one of my dreams come true.

Of course, I would also like to continue writing. I would like to write a novel or a series of children's books someday. I am in the thought process point of that right now, and enjoy the time I do get to spend writing for GA.

I also dream of being a mom. That one is probably one of the most important ones to me. Here's to hoping that one isn't too far away :)

I want to finish school with a 3.0 GPA or better (I have a 2.24 right now…) with a Bachelor's in Music Education and a minor in French and to get my certification for Colorado AND California… if not just a national certification to teach middle school music. I want to get married and have children, but not until after I've graduated. I want to find a job that fits my skills with people.

For more short-term, I want to break 7000 gamerscore by the end of the year on xbox live! That and finish all of my Magic: the Gathering books I've been meaning to read.

Also, I want to wish everyone the best of luck on their goals… and their chasing of their dreams.

MinaValkyrie a good way to start is to start getting involved in local ECA, Women in Games International and IDGA chapters. There is also GameMentorOnline.com which sets you up with a mentor when you graduate. Definitely check out these organizations because networking always helps. You never know if the next person you meet at a function can be the one to get you that job!

Thank you for all the wonderful suggestions! (And sorry for the delayed response been sick and college is killing me slowly) I'll certainly look into these during my break between semesters so I can devote some time to them and really read what they're about. Once again thank you.
