Girls and Gaming:: A fun issue... *sarcasm*
That's pretty rude and ignorant that someone would say something like that.. I used to have devastatingly painful cramps to the point where I would cry, and I'm usually fairly good with pain. I just got onto some birth control (the patch works the best for me) and it stops completely.

Perhaps if people think you're using it as an excuse you should inform them - as graphically as you can - exactly what is going on in there that causes the pain and warrants the "excuses"? Provide illustrations if necessary : )

Playing games was always comforting to me in those times, but when it first hits and you're getting migraines/covering your head with blankets/lifting your legs up with pillows to ease the cramping.. well, you can't do anything in that state! Especially since all of that combined makes you nauseous.

I was lucky to be working at a place - when this sort of thing was an issue - where I worked with my manager and his wife, and he knew when something was up and what the gist of it probably was.. and he was really chill/understanding when I wanted to go home and pop a few pills/lay down for a bit and come back (I usually worked 12-14 hour shifts) if it was during business hours, or letting me lay on the couches if it was past business hours.

That or we'd alternate shifts because of it. If you take a look at my attendance back in high school for a year or so there, I missed a good 2-3 days at the end of each month.. like clockwork. Pretty funny, but I had so many absences that I had to do a huge writeup about it and I just claimed insomnia. The principal was a woman and I think she knew exactly what was up because she just smiled during our entire little meeting and told me it was no big deal.. lol.

Conventions:: PAX 08
Hey guys, hope you're excited as I am! I'm heading up tomorrow and should be in Seattle probably around 9-11PM.

Is there anything I should bring besides the normal travel stuff? I'm going to bring my DS's (mostly for the ride up and back), my laptop + camera for blogging and a good pair of shoes. But is there anything you might not first think to bring that would be awesome for either the event itself or the downtime?

Also, Trina what is your schedule like as far as what panels you're going to (minus the one you're obviously a part of ;P)?

Here's what I've got so far:

Quote:

FRIDAY
3PM-4PM / Wolfman Theatre
The Wright Stuff: Educating Tomorrow's Developers Today

4:30PM-5:30PM / Raven Theatre
Girls and Games: The Growing Role of Women in the Game Industry

5:30PM-6:30PM / Main Theatre
Penny Arcade Q&A Panel #1

6:30PM-7:30PM / Serpent Theatre
Engaging Online Communities

9PM-1AM / Main Theater
Music: Specifically The One-Ups
or 9PM-10PM / Raven Theatre
"The Guild Screening"

SATURDAY
2:30-3:30PM / Walrus Theatre
Sisters in Gaming: Female Gamer Communities

.. possibly the Nerdcore for Life screening @ 10PM.
.. possibly the concerts.

SUNDAY
10:30AM-11:30AM / Wolfman Theatre
Art & Visual Design in Games Today
or Breaking In

2:30PM-3:30PM / Main Theater
Maxis presents Spore

..possibly the second PA Q&A.

Are there any that you guys are going to that I don't have on my list that you think would be rad?

Girls and Gaming:: Interesting post regarding girl gamers and their opinions of WoW
Maybe I've just had too much personal experience with girls and drama. A lot of female friends that I'm no longer friends with is because of drama they had. I've only had this issue with a few of my guy friends.

It's not fair to kick a girl out of the guild for being a whore, but if she's causing trouble within the guild then it's a problem...although if it was me I would kick her and any of the guys that were causing trouble out of the guild.

I don't play WoW...although I do play PSU. It's just a game, so I don't take it seriously. Whenever I'm confronted with drama I laugh it off. You don't need a group to go on any missions or play any of the areas in PSU. I just roll with the punches. A guy tries to call me fat I tell him I'm a million pounds. A guy tries to tell me I'm a guy I tell him something vulgar. It's all for fun.

Quote:

Soyuki wrote:
Lol all this after I got a little peeved the other day at work when I had two customers ignore me (after I asked if they needed help) and instead approached my male coworker about games, when he refered them back to me, they didn't want help or would go back to asking him questions... rawr! :P

lol, I had similar situations happen. A couple of times the guys would end up asking me about games and you could tell that would be hesitant, but as soon as they realized I knew my stuff they would start hitting on me -_- Then they would wonder why I wouldn't give them my number.

hmmm...was I crazy or was the PS3 store faster before? I could have sworn that it was faster than the 360 at one point and time. Maybe since more people are using the store now and there's more content on the store now it is slowing down.
