Gaming News : Paramount Digital making games based on their movies including a personal fave
Posted by trina on 2008/7/22 13:50:50 (19 reads)

I love, love, love Pretty in Pink. I might be dating myself, but I grew up watching that movie. Over and over again I watched Molly Ringwald refuse Duckie.

Interestingly enough, Paramount Digital Entertainment along with Legacy Interactive are working to create games based on Clueless, Mean Girls and Pretty in Pink.

In Clueless: The game, players will become Cher as she tries to find the perfect boyfriends for all her friends. Of course this means planning the perfect outfit. As if!

Mean Girls: High School Showdown, is not a fighter like I might hope, but instead puts players in the position to try and restore balance in the school. You try to end the "Plastic clique". I have nothing to say really...

Then we get to my Pretty in Pink. This game will have players solving visual puzzles to experience the story about love, friendship and the clash of social cliques.

"Paramount is focused on creating quality interactive entertainment based on evergreen motion pictures. With these games, we will not only reach the core casual games audience, but engage new audiences with our properties," said Sandi Isaacs, Senior Vice President, Interactive & Mobile, Paramount Digital Entertainment. "We are confident that our collaboration with Legacy Interactive will be a great success."

I think they are trying to make games for a female demographic...what do you think?

Gaming News : Guitar Hero III gets a new track back
Posted by trina on 2008/7/22 13:30:04 (21 reads)

This track pack focuses on real legends fo rock. The three master tracks are from artists Joe Satriani, Steve Wai, and Buckethead. Expect these songs to be difficult because these guys are known for their shredding skills.

"Experience influential guitarist Joe Satriani’s soulful 1987 hit, “Surfing with the Alien,” get blown away with guitar slinger Steve Vai’s reflective, “For the Love of God,” and feel the avant-garde compositions of underground rock’s most eccentric guitarist, Buckethead, as he shreds “Soothsayer,” at hyper-speed."

Yeah, you're in for it if you decide to take these on at Expert level. The track pack is available on Xbox Live July 24th and on Playstation 3 on the 24th as well.

The expansion pack includes four new hero professions, new spells to cast, new quests, monsters and bosses. Basically, lots of new stuff for you to do. The expansion pack also increases the full Puzzle Quest experience by adding three new Achievements and raising the character Level Cap to 60.

The expansion is available for 700 Microsoft points. Too bad I bought Puzzle Quest for the PSP.

Last week Lego Indiana Jones: Original Adventures was able to push it's way up the charts. The game that moved the most is Wall-E. The little robot that could moved from 16 to number 2! Talk about a marketing push! Wii Fit dropped to number 3 while Wii Play went up three spaces to number four. The one thing I can't understand is why Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games is still in the top 20. At number 7 no less!

The winning publisher last week was Nintendo with five spots four in the top 6. Life is still looking good for Nintendo abroad.

Gaming News : Gears of War 2 recruiting at Comic con
Posted by trina on 2008/7/22 12:46:40 (14 reads)

I need to make a comic con image because we are going to have a TON of information from the show floor. One of which is coverage on Gears of War 2. You can meet and get an autographed poster from Cliff Bleszinski and lead writer Joshua Ortega. Attendees are also invited to stop by on Saturday (the busiest day) from 2-2:45pm for a in-depth look at that game. There is also a Gears of War panel from 3:30-4:30pm in room 6B. In the panel there will be a sneak peak at weapons in the game.

For the collectors, 7" Anthony Carmine figure will be available at Comic Con booth #4345 for $20. They will also have the series 1 and 2 of all the gears of war figures.

Gaming News : "Summer Session" Dating game launches
Posted by trina on 2008/7/22 12:27:38 (12 reads)

In the forums we have discussed dating games. While very popular in Japan there is almost a hesitance to bring them out to other areas of the world. Tycoon Games has released Summer Session, a dating simulation game with multiple endings.

Riva Celso, programmer/designer of Tycoon Games stated "I am very happy about the result we obtained with Summer Session. It is a fun game with hilarious dialogue and intriguing characters, and very replayable thanks to the multiple endings."

It's awesome to be able to say that it will be available for both PC and Mac platforms. Yay for gaming on multiple platofrms. In the game you play Julius who is a bit socially-awkward. Every choice you make affects his skills and reputation. You'll want to impress the ladies, but you can't fail the final exam.

You can download a free demo at www.tycoongames.eu.

Gaming News : Gamers love Peripherals
Posted by trina on 2008/7/22 12:19:01 (11 reads)

Ah peripherals. I love Rock Band and Guitar Hero, but my apartment always ends up looking like a tornado ran through it whenever we have a party. Controllers lying everywhere, and guitars layed out on the floor. My current method of a wicker basket for controllers was fine until the basket overflowed.

It looks like I'm not the only one that is a bit peripheral heavy. NPD research group said that sales of peripherals for May were up 30% more than last year. Gamers are spending over a half a billion dollars just on video game accessories.

“For gamers, accessories are the bells and whistles that enhance the fun and quality of playing video games,” stated Tom LaVoie, President of Red Lion Interactive, the Nation’s leading wholesaler of video game accessories. “And for retailers and distributors the margins, especially from third party manufacturers, are higher than most other product segments.”

That's a lot of money for peripherals! Now if someone would invent a neat place to store all of them!

Gaming News : New Dead Rising coming to the Wii
Posted by trina on 2008/7/21 14:38:35 (23 reads)

Appropriately named Dead Rising: Chop Til you Drop, it's the next title from Capcom to be developed for the Wii. Should be out in stores this winter.

You'll use the Wii Remote to shoot, slash and of course... chop your way through the zombie infested shopping mall. I think I'll make a note to never go shopping where Frank West ends up.

The game is split into a series of individual cases which Frank has to complete to find out the truth behind the virus. It will be timed which definitely increases the tough factor. I wonder if they will bring back the Mega Man head.

Gaming News : Xbox Live Arcade updates this week
Posted by trina on 2008/7/21 14:15:46 (21 reads)

This Wednesday on Xbox Live Arcade you have two choices. Should you be curious or accept the challenge, one is a rhythm game and the other is a WWII airstrike.

Go!Go! Break Steady is a rhythm game combined with match style puzzle game play. Uhoh sounds like two serious addictions combined in one game. There are 20 different songs and it will be 800 MS points.

1942: Joint Strike is a WWII top-down shooter with 3D HD graphics. So you can check off the "will look awesome" box. You basically face off with enemies and participate in dogfights. It is also available for 800 MS points.
