    The Art of the Last of Us from Dark Horse

    It’s E3 this week which means more information about the latest games and consoles that the game industry has to offer. To me, it’s also a celebration for new ideas that challenge our current video game offerings. One of my favorite areas of E3 is the art pavilion. Coming from someone that can barely draw a stick figure, it’s amazing what artists in the industry can come up with. Art that inspires characters, feelings and ultimately the game. Naughty Dog Studios has teamed up with Dark Horse to show the art behind their E3 2012 hit, The Last of Us. A title that is out this Frida, 6/14! In the art book, you can see the steps the team took to finding the perfect look for this father-daughter relationship. It’s incredibly interesting to visually see the ideas that led to the final product. At 177 pages, the full-color artbook provides

    See real Gorillas to celebrate the launch of Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D

    Memorial Day Weekend is a great opportunity to get out and get some fresh air. Courtesy of Nintendo, you can get fresh air and brand new gaming experience in one place! Fun for the whole family! Nintendo is taking over the Los Angeles Zoo to celebrate the launch of Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D at the Campo Gorilla Reserve. They have a station with a ton of Nintendo 3DS and copies of Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D. The Donkey Kong Interactive Experience involves the zoo’s family of lowland gorillas. At around 12:30pm, the gorillas receive cardboard barrels that are filled with treats. Fun! The experience is at the LA Zoo (5333 Zoo Drive) May 24-27th from 10am – 5pm. I took Pumpkin and she had a GREAT time. I loved it. This was my first trip to the LA Zoo and they are incredibly baby friendly! I can’t wait to

    Dragon’s Crown: Two Big Bouncing Problems for Gaming?

    About a month ago, Atlus confirmed the localization of Vanillaware’s Dragons’ Crown for North America. Many gamers like myself, who loved Odin Sphere for the Playstation 2, and Muramasa: The Demon Blade for the Wii were absolutely thrilled. Vanillaware’s character designer, George Kamitani has always had a very distinct style, which I have personally loved since as far back as Princess Crown for the Sega Saturn. Dragon’s Crown most noticeably features an evolution of his usual art style; The characters are more dramatically proportioned, with ridiculously mythologized body types. Rather than the daintier frames of Gwendolyn and Oswald, we now have the obscenely muscled Dwarf, and the notoriously buxomed Sorceress. And this has caused quite a bit of controversy amongst gamers with very vocal opinions. It all started with Kotaku’s Jason Schrierer stating Kamitani’s work embodied the “drawings of a fourteen-year-old-boy.” Kamitani fired back on his Facebook, with this image;

    Make a Pinnatta interactive card for the Mommy in your life

    Hi everyone! It’s getting close to Mother’s Day and if you haven’t found a card yet, I have a great FREE interactive card solution! has a free app for iOS and android that allows you to create and send a message to your loved ones (cough Mother..cough). Remember e-cards? I used to send those all the time. But they are clunky and made in Flash and that doesn’t run on most phones. These messages are not only fun, but they look good too! This year they even made the First year Mom card shown above! As a first time mom, I appreciate the effort! I don’t think you can even find a regular card for first time moms! Pinnatta has a card that can work for any holiday and they are constantly adding new ones! Follow them on Facebook and

    Can Candy Crush Saga keep King at the top?

    For the most part I hate Facebook games. That is until I had pumpkin. Now I find myself obsessed with a Facebook game. But I also refuse to play by the typical Facebook game rules. Candy Crush Saga is a Facebook and mobile game. I have to admit that I found it first on mobile before I realized it was also a Facebook game. I found out because it asked me to do that thing that I hate most about Facebook games…ask my friends. Yes, one of my pet peeves about Facebook games is the constant “poking” or messaging to friends in order to get something you need for the game. I close my Facebook tab when I see too many messages about how friend A reached reached a certain level or score. These “social” games make money. Most Facebook/mobile games live on a micro-transaction model. This means you pay

    Own Mass Effect 3 weapon replicas

    I know the GamingAngels audience loves Mass Effect and so I had to post about these amazing replicas. Triforce is creating replicas of the Mass Effect 3 M-6 Carnifex Pistol, M-77 Paladin Pistol and The Geth Pulse Rifle. Pre-orders for all three started on Thursday, April 25th. The replicas are sculpted and cast in polystone. The M-6 Carnifex and the M-77 Paladin measure 12.5 inches in length and weigh in at 7 pounds each. The Geth rifle has a bit more heft to it coming in at 20 pounds. That’s some serious weight to carry around all day. The replicas are not just for looking good though. They have working LED effects too. In case the guns are not just for sitting on a cabinet (looking at you cosplayers!). Unfortunately these will all be limited runs with the Paladin only being made to 200 units. The M-6 Carnifex and the

    Girl Scouts of LA gets video game patch

    I am so excited to be writing about this announcement! At GamingAngels, we have volunteered with many groups to encourage young girls to explore STEM careers. While the Boy Scouts have a technology badge, the Girl Scouts never have, until now. Women in Games International is working with Girl Scouts of Greater Los Angeles to create the first video game patch for Girl Scouts. WIGI hopes that the partnership will end up creating a nationally recognized badge for the Girl Scouts The patch will use Gamestar Mechanic, which is a development tool used for the National STEM Video Game Challenge. The platform has already helped over 350,000 youth explore what it’s like to create games. “Our ultimate goal is to create a STEM-aligned video game badge for the Girl Scouts of the United States of America,” said Amy Allison, vice president at WIGI. “Creating this badge will get young girls
