World of Warcraft players raise over 2.3 million for Sandy victims
In December, Blizzard announced the Cinder Kitten, a virtual pet, where 100% of the purchases by December 31, 2012 would go to the American Red Cross’s support for Superstorm Sandy relief efforts. World of Warcraft players got behind this really cute Cinder Kitten and raised more than $2.3 billion to be donated. So cute and way to go to the World of Warcraft community for rallying around a much needed cause.

Hasbro teams up with PopCap to create Bejeweled games
Hasbro is teaming up with PopCap games to create board games from some of PopCap’s popular properties. “Hasbro shares PopCap’s vision and commitment to high quality and endlessly enjoyable game play,” said Brennan Townley, Director of Brand Licensing at PopCap Games. “We’re thrilled to work with Hasbro to create unique game experiences around PopCap’s intellectual properties that expand our brands in authentic, meaningful ways.” Two new games will come out in 2013 based on PopCap’s Bejeweled. A game so popular it’s sold over 50 million digital units worldwide. My parents just got an iPad for the holidays and are already addicted to Bejeweled. In the Hasbro version of the Bejeweled game players will swap gems on a board to match 3 or more to win. In Bejeweled Frenzy, players will build stacks of cards as fast as they can. Both games will come with digital aspects to add to your

Plume #1 review
Title: Plume #1 Publisher: Devil’s Due Creator: K. Lynn Smith Recommendation: BUY We received a review copy of Plume # 1 from Devil’s Due and so I dived in right away. With the help of 497 backers on Kickstarter, Plume was able to go from Web Comic to Print. I had not heard of Plume in the web comics and it’s great that this title has the opportunity to head to print and gain exposure. Because it’s worth it! Plume features Vesper Grey, a strong female lead who’s father is an archeologist. A role us gamers are familiar with, but don’t think this is just a Tomb Raider rip off. Vesper Grey teams up with her supernatural bodyguard, Corrick (you find out a little about him in the first issue), to hunt for ancient mystic artifacts discovered by Vesper’s father. The comic is a mixture of Western meets Fantasy with

What I read week of December 30
Ah the last week of the year…. and what did I choose to end the year reading? Wonder if what I list below is a reflection of my year as a whole. What are your thoughts? First up I took on Echo by Terry Moore. Terry Moore is one of my favorite comic book writers. I fell in love with Strangers in Paradise (PLEASE READ IT IF YOU HAVEN’T YET). For a long time my online nick was Katchoo inspired by one of his characters in Strangers in Paradise. For some reason when Echo came out, I bought the first two graphic novels and just kindof dropped it. I never read them and basically just skipped the entire story. Big mistake. Because Echo is exactly what I have come to expect from Terry Moore. I love the characters and their interactions. Since I only have the two issues, I actually

Review: Fluxx for iOS devices
Game: Fluxx Publisher: PlayDekGames/Looney Labs Link to app in Apple Store Fluxx is a weird name for a game, but it definitely captures the essence that is unlike any game you have played before. There are many games in the Fluxx series, for this review we looked at Fluxx for iOS devices. The game: Fluxx is a game that thrives on the chaos that is created while playing. One can play online or offline up to four players. I played against AI opponents for this review. You basically play cards during your round to end up trying to achieve your goal. The goal is listed in the goal box, and you can use your keepers to achieve it. But you’ll have to act fast because one of the things that can change often is that all the players can change out the goal. At the same time that goals are

What I read Week of 12/23
Even though I’m getting everything ready for Pumpkin, I do have some downtime. It’s typically when I’m already laying on the couch and too tired to move anymore. It hit me last night, that I have a HUGE stack of books and comics (actually many stacks) that I have never read. So I gathered a few and each week I’ll give a run down of what I read and if you should pick it up. Prepare yourself though…some of this stuff is old (like from a few comic cons ago), but you might have missed out too and it’s easy now to go back and start on what you’ve missed. This week I read…. I am a huge fan of Archie comics. I remember as a kid in Germany running to the base to make sure I bought that week’s digest. I bought them all too. Betty and Veronica, Archie,

Capcom sends Holiday Wishes & Angels in booty shorts
It’s that time of year where we are getting fun Holiday cards from various video game companies. I was going to accumulate all of them into one post later in the week, but I had to post this one from Capcom. I know I’ve been out of gaming for awhile concentrating on Pumpkin, but what in the world is this image from? Who is the guy? Why are the angels half naked in booty shorts? Does that say Holiday Wishes to you? The angels seem to be staring at something in his lap? Here is the full image: I’d love to hear some ideas as to the concept behind the card before I personally decide how I feel about the card. Can’t make decisions without all the information right?

Pop Culture Shock Collectibles to release He-Man statues
Wow I cannot believe that it’s been 30 years of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe. I watched so much of that cartoon while growing up. Pop Culture Shock Collectibles are teaming up with Mattel to bring the characters to life in 1:4 scale mixed media statues. Unfortunately, the press release calls these statues from a “boys action brand”, but we all know that we love the figures too! “Having spent many years bringing the warriors of Street Fighter & Mortal Kombat to sculptural life, I’m extremely excited to add He-Man and the Masters of the Universe to the Pop Culture Shock Collectibles lineup,” stated Jerry Macaluso, President and Founder of Pop Culture Shock Collectibles. “There are few characters that so perfectly embody the archetype of the hero, and He-Man is just that! He’s right at home with the other muscle-bound warriors in the PCSC stable.” The first statue
