Look, I know you want to keep the pirates’ paws off your games, and you implemented some crazy DRM to keep only paying customers in the loop, but it seems to be backfiring a little bit for you.

What? Oh, yeah, we know you fixed the game so you can start again at the point where the Internet connection dropped off. That was awfully nice of you. I mean, I don’t see why you didn’t do that from the beginning, but whatever! We’ve gotten past that.

Assassin’s Creed II requires an Internet connection to play, yes? So it can continually check in to your servers to make sure the player’s copy of the game is legit, correct? So anyone without Internet access can basically kiss playing your games goodbye and you don’t care.

It seems that you’ve left one little piece out of the puzzle, though.

If you’re going to make us play by your crazy rules, MAKE SURE YOUR DRM SERVERS ARE ACTUALLY UP AND RUNNING, OKAY? People paid for the game, they ought to get to play it! It’s not that unreasonable of a request, is it?

Thanks for letting us get that off our chests. We’d appreciate it if this didn’t happen again. (Or if you only required one activation instead of constant contact, but that might just be asking too much – I’m not sure.)

Many complained that the first Assassin’s Creed didn’t have any downloadable content. Well Ubisoft is making it up to you in a big way. They announced today not one, but two new DLC packs coming to Assassin’s Creed II.

In a mailing from Ubisoft to press, the DLC will come during the first two months of 2010. The information included the names of the dlc -”Battle of Forli” in January, “Bonfire of the Vanities” in February, but no pricing or further details.

Assassin’s Creed II is selling well. It has sold 1.6 million units worldwide and is a 32% growth from first week sales of the original.

While that doesn’t say anything to the quality of the game, GameSpot’s users have rated it 94% and has a 91% on Metacritic.

Ubisoft announced the first of the three episodes from the new Assassin’s Creed: Lineage short movies will debut on YouTube on October 27, 2009. YouTube will actually be featuring the movie on it’s homepage for 24 hours that day.

The short films were developed by Ubisoft’s Hybride Technologies and combines live action with CGI. The films cover the events that happen right before Assassin’s Creed 2 game starts.

“Ubisoft is excited to share a new Assassin’s Creed experience with the public. The Assassin’s Creed Lineage film series is part of Ubisoft’s ongoing efforts to reinforce its intellectual properties by bringing them to multiple entertainment mediums, providing gamers with a more immersive experience when they play as Ezio, the master assassin of Assassin’s Creed II,” stated Yves Guillemot, chief executive officer of Ubisoft.

Assassin’s Creed 2 is out on November 20,2009.
