Blizzard working on adding “pseudo LAN” to StarCraft II

The petitions have been passed around and signed by hundreds of thousands of gamers that are upset by the previous announcement of no LAN support for StarCraft II. While Blizzard was standing by the company line of supporting Battle.net, it seems that Greg Canessa has stated that they are now working on a LAN-like solution. Speaking to Shacknews, Canessa said, “We are working on solutions with regard to things we can do to maintain connectivity to Battle.net in some way, but also provide a great quality connection between players.” Asked whether the solution might include a pseudo-LAN connection, where the game might check for Battle.net authentication first, the developer replied, “Something like that… Maintaining a connection with Battle.net, I don’t know if it’s once or periodically, but then also having a peer-to-peer connection between players to facilitate a very low-ping, high-bandwidth connection.. those are the things that we’re working on.”

The new version of Battle.net is tightly integrated with StarCraft II. During the call they stated, “Over the past couple of weeks, it has become clear that

StarCraft II won’t have LAN support

In an recent interview with IncGamers, Blizzard’s Rob Pardo confirmed that StarCraft II won’t have LAN support. We got quite different answers about local area networking (LAN), where both Dustin or Sigaty said they were still discussing it, however, Pardo knew immediately: “We don’t have any plans to support LAN,” he said and clarified “we will not support it.” The only multiplayer available will be on Battle.net. Pretty much making sure all players sign up for Battle.net. Looks like there won’t be LAN parties for StarCraft II fans.
